Is this the noise that most people have been experiencing? Anybody had the dealer fix a 250 yet? Mine happens once every 10 starts or so. The weird thing is, it almost always happens after Iv driven it for a while, let it sit for a couple hours then start it back up.. It's pretty embarrassing in front of people.

I have read pretty much every post on this forum related to this topic (yes, I've seen the 32 page thread), but most seem to focus on the 350, not the 250. All of the links to the 250 TSB are also dead. It also doesn't sound like the VVTi cam gear sound that I heard on someone else's video.

it was taken with my phone so the quality sucks, I'll try to get a better video. I can hear it fine if I turn my volume up all the way.

 

You can hear it but barely. It does make the same sound mine does but mine is unpredictable. Took it to the dealer but they couldnt replicate it and at this point I dont care anymore.

 

I have the same problem it happens about once a month or so.

 

I have the same problem also.. happens around once every 1-2 month or so.. I brought it to the dealer and said that they can't fix it unless they hear it..

 

I apologize if this has been previously addressed but I am new to posting...been viewing and reading for some time. I too had the same issue with the "rattle in the front end" and just took in my 2006 IS350 for it's 55,000 mile oil change. By the sound of the video, it sounds just like my noise. The service guy knew exactly what I was refering to and knew what it was and apparently it's been happening with IS's. It turns out it's a "cam gear rattle" and they had to replace the cam gears. Somewhat labor intensive but didn't cost a dime. The problem is now solved and no more rattle. Hope that helps.
