got hit and run in parking lot, headlight issue
So I got hit and run in the parking lot yesterday, there were some scrub marks on the headlight cover and the nearby area. I was able to get all of the marks of the body, but couldn't do that for the headlight cover. I consider myself fortunate that that's the little damage. So I called my local dealer and the said it would cost $1,800 cdn to replace the whole headlight housing, but keep in mind nothing is wrong with it except there are some scrub marks on it. They said the headlight housing comes in 1 piece so I cannot just get a new cover for it.
My car is a leased one, so before the end of the lease I am going have to do something about it. But I really don't want to pay this much money for a cosmetic thing since you can't really see it unless you are like 5 feet away from the car.
So my question is, is the headlight just manufactured as 1 piece, or that the dealers won't just sell the cover itself? Need some advice here, thanks.

+1 or just check with a local detailer if you don't feel comfortable trying to buff it our yourself. From your picture it doesn't appear that the plastic is scratched and the black plastic that is on the light will probably just buff out.

+1 on others. See if someone can buff that out. The outside lenses is somewhat thick, so there should be some room to work a polish in there.
And no, just the front lenses are not available by themselves.

ouch! i hate hit and runs, even if it is the smallest thing like a ding in the door... like at least leave a note apologizing even if you dont leave your info...
it seems like some black plastic is on the cover, but i could be wrong, try scrubbing it out?
and it is true, that it is one part (you can't buy the headlight in different parts it comes as a whole)
i say - sand it down, buff it out and try to pass it by when your lease is up.
be glad there isn't further damage, i had something similar happen to me and it cracked the reflective mirror on the inside of the headlight, but the outside was perfectly fine haha... cant repair that, but it looks like you can save it!
Good luck!

I guess you can be glad that the damage was minimal and not worse. I agree with others, you should contact your local dealer or body shop to see what they can do with the scraches. Maybe they can buff if out. Don't consider paying full price for a new head light from the dealer. Good luck.
