Weird cranking sound when starting engine
I have a 2008 IS350 with 10k miles. Lately I have been realizing that when I start my engine, it makes a loud cranking sound. It sounds very nasty like metal is hitting against each other in the engine. It is very difficult to explain but just wondering if this is a common problem or do I have a defected car?
Also, when I am at idle for like 30 seconds, the engine gets very loud. Is this a common thing for a IS?

i was told to bring the car in and leave it overnight because the noise usually comes on cold starts after the engine have been stopped for a period of time. so be prepared to leave your car at the dealership for at least 2 days
Rather common problem, caused by a problem with the cam gears/VVTi controller. There is a huge 32+ page thread here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...threads-5.html
Yes, exactly the same issue as mine. Hard to explain the sound but it just sounds like someone is choking.
