Default Ticking engine sound

I have asked service manager 3 seperate times about the loud ticking engine noise. He always says its OK and normal? Does anyone have any feedback or experiencing the same issue? 2004 GX470 runs like a dream with 136k miles.

So do you know why? I am NOT a mechanic, and I'm afraid not mechanically minded, but it just seems to me that the ticking shoudn't be so loud. To try to minimize, I let the suv warm up past the first line on the temp gauge before I take off. This seems to help a little, but I notice after half hour driving at intersections, I can hear my engine ticking noice when other cars pass me? Don't get me wrong here, I love my suv. However, it just doesn't compute that something I paid 52k for should sound so lousey?

It's normal. There is another thread on the subject.

Few years back I had the similar problem on my LS..and lot of time was wasted and finally one forum member located the source of the problem and it was the ODO cable. I had looked into mine and bingo! it was just that, replaced with another OEM one and just smooth, no more of the irritant noise. Maybe you couls start from there. One more check out the PCV valve also, sometime if there is build up you could have ticking noise as well.

thank you all for your imput. I will try the best grade gas(as reccommended on other link from CSSNMS). As I stated before, my "ticking noise" doesn't go away. I always let the engine warm up before leaving. I will ask the SA about ODO cable and PCV valve? (I'm not mechanically minded.) Hope this fixes the constant irritating noise, and that I haven't caused any damage. I hope to keep my GX through the first 200k. Have kids and drive hwy 18 in some pretty bad weather, and have (perhaps a false) sense of security driving this SUV!
Thanks again to all! Love this forum!
