Default Tips on installing the trunk spoiler..

Hi guys,
I just got my ebay trunk spoiler today and will do the no-drill method with only 3m tape.

I read somewhere that the trunk area where the spoiler will be put on should be washed with soap and water and should remain WET, so that the spoiler can be positioned and adjusted to desirable position before pressing down.

Is this correct? Will the 3m tape still stick on a wet surface?

I dont know about that wet part.. But i do know you have to sand the inner part of the spoiler where the 3M tapes goes. After sanding it, wipe it down with the wipes they gave you then careful position the tape on the spoiler first before sticking it. when you put the tape on make sure you leave a little inch of tape out where you can pull the tape when its position and ready to install. Be gentle when you're pulling the tape and make sure you pound on top of the spoiler softly to make sure it sticks on. Hope this helps oh yeah use a razor to cut the tape if necessary. It should only take about 15 minutes.. GL

hm, i thought these things come with like an adhesion promoter which sort of softens it up.

I didn't wet the spoiler on my last car before sticking it on, and it was hard as a rock when I heatgunned it dry.

I'm guessing you got the same spoiler off ebay that I bought. It already has the 3m tape lining the spoiler. I just washed the trunk with soap and water and dried it. Then, I had 2 friends help me position it. And then we pressed it for about 2-3 minutes. The biggest tip I will give you is: Press the corners hard. I was basically leaning into it with all my weight and so were my buddies. I say this because one of my friends did the tape and was afraid to put a lot of pressure on the spoiler and the corners started to come loose. He eventually pulled it off and re-taped it but save yourself the time and energy and just do it right the first time.

Yup what he said..I put mine on the first time,,Well i guess i just don't weigh enough..My edges didn't stick well..4 days later i just pulled on the spoiler and it pretty much just came right off..I had extra 3M tape from when i re-badged my Tundra(Sold it) the 3M tape i had was a little thicker..Now the thing is really on, The edges are attached, sitn' better..

no idea so many 2IS owners purchase eBay spoilers(not saying anything is wrong with it), on the 3GS forum modding your car with anything but authentic items is looked down upon

It is here too. (Lexon spoilers vs JUn-TW versus ebay ones for instance)
Just people don't bring it up that much because there's always those who frown upon it

Most of the rich people you come across look for deals and penny pinch anywhere they can so.....I can't say I necessarily agree with your conclusion. Either way, I'd challenge anybody to tell the difference between my ebay spoiler and an OEM one. I call it smarter spending. But that's just my 2 cents. I will say however, there are certain products that you should not 'baller budget' on.....I don't consider the spoiler one of them.
