I'm trying to replace my Navigation DVD, and I've searched and read through the forums, and I found a couple of pictures, but I need some additional help.

I have a 2008 IS350 w/ML, but I'm under the assumption I still have to remove the clock panel to get to the Nav dvd (which I think is stupid).

1. I have removed the Lexus toolkit and used the 2 "insert" tools. However, I never really heard a click. Is it supposed to be inserted the entire length of the tool?

2. How am I supposed to remove the clock panel? I tried prying directly underneath the hazard button and it didn't seem to work. I also tried prying at the end of the clear plastic....no good.

I have a feeling I'm going to break something. Anyone have any experience they can share with me?

I've replaced my navi dvd a couple times
1) i never heard a click with the insert tools. it doesn't need to go all the way in, but needs to go pretty far in. without pictures, the best i can explain it is to make sure they are centered and the tips you push in should face outward (ie. the hex part of the tool should be facing medially, toward the middle). leave them in until you remove the clock panel.

2) i used 2 small suction cups from a radar detector to remove the clock panel. it took some pull but it came off.

 

I got it. I finally decided to go buy suction cups as you (and the other thread) suggested. Talk about a seriously unpleasant experience. I guess if I could have found suction cups at wal-mart that weren't seriously deformed it *might* have been a better experience.

I've never had the slightest problem. I DO push the tools in as far as they go, then pull the clock panel out by the tools. Never needed a suction cup, nor did I need to force anything.

 

You, my friend, are a very lucky individual. I had trouble even with the suction cup. I was about 10 minutes away from breaking out a crowbar (and subsequently breaking stuff).

 

^ did the same thing and never had any problem. just push the tools as hard as you can, the whole tool length should go in.

 

Maybe you guys with '06's lucked out!

 

My '06 350 was a cakewalk. Haven't tried this on the F yet. Not sure if I want to back-rev the firmware to the over-ride capable version since I don't know if there were IS-F specific updates. I wouldn't want to back-rev it and then find out I'd damaged something mechanical.

 

I have to say I am proud of myself. I may be the most mechanically inept person out there but I was able to get the clock face out and update my NAV DVD with little issue. The insert tool (the whole length) goes right in. About half way in is where you need to exert a little force to get them to go in all the way. Then you just pull them out, together at the same time and the clock face easily comes out. Getting the face back in was more difficult, but not very. Just need to take your time and kind of make sure both sides go in at the same time.
