Default DVD playback

I copy my DVD's to my IPOD classic and play the DVD's through the VAIS SL2VI and on to my NAV screen

Most of the newer movies come with a digital copy which you can download to your IPOD. If the movie doesn't have a digital copy I use a program called Handbrake and DVD43 to rip the DVD to a mpeg4 format. the sound from the VAIS is digital Dolby 5.1

You have to understand that I am a member of another forum which features Cadillac CTS-V's. That forum is a wealth of both positive and negative information due mainly to the fact that the "V" series is very new to the Cadillac world. I can tell you of at least 3 situations where I was advised one thing and it turned out to be another. My "V" has basically what appears to be the same NAV/CD/DVD setup as our Lexus. I can, however, play a DVD and we discovered a hack whereby one can watch and listen to a DVD while in motion - not that I ever do that.

So be gentle with me - we went with the Lexus over an additional CTS because of its features, reliability and its styling, and the fact that I didn't want two cars that I couldn't drive in the Winter. I hope to live happily for a long time with both cars. And, by the way, you guys were spot-on telling me that I couldn't play DVD's in my IS250. But I had to find out for myself and I make no apologies for that.

first of all, welcome to clublexus.

second, you can't make an assumption that just because two cars are similarly equipped that what works for one car will work for another.

btw, as the 2is has been out since late 2005 (as a 2006 model), you'd figure that three-plus years of knowledge base contained here in this forum would've told you that you don't have DVD audio/video playback unless you have the mark levinson sound system and nav (for video).

we tried to tell you that, but i guess some have to learn it their own special way.

I can't speak to other forums, but you are going to get the right advice here. And you WILL get flamed when you say "Thanks, but I'm going to test it out myself." But you'll be a better person for it.

With an attitude like yours why don't you try to answer your own question next time since you do own the car and equipment. Then you can just tell us your findings kinda like you already did but this way you don't have to aggravate everyone before doing so.

i'm sure his ego has taken a hit from this episode; i know i would be thoroughly embarassed if i tried something that we all know is impossible. no need to add insult upon injury. /OT

lesson is: no mark levinson sound system, no DVD video/audio playback.

Wow, you guys are tough! But I came to you guys for advise because I was confused - guess I'll not do that again! It seems you guys know all there is to know about your car. So did the guys on the "V" forum when we were all told that there is no way to play a DVD while in motion. That lasted until another forum member came up with a simple hack (after a lot of trial and error) that allowed us to do so. Now it's standard procedure to push two buttons before we take off the parking brake and the DVD plays while in motion. This is just one example - I could mention a couple more.

I guess that now that I'm a Lexus owner I must assume that everything I hear is gospel? NOT!

Let the flames begin - I can't believe the over-reaction I've gotten over this to begin with.

Maybe you just haven't had a chance yet to review the "Establishing a Sense of Community" thread?

No skin off my nose. There is some wrong information posted in here from time to time, but it's generally corrected very quickly. From a long time reader, but recent "poster" I hope the rest of your stay here goes smoothly.
