Thinking about repainting some parts
Hey guys,
I'm thinking about repainting parts that were damaged from an accident at a local body shop.
But I wanted to clear up some things before I let the guy do it...
So tell me if I'm getting things wrong I'm still a NOOOOB,
1) Base color means single stage
Base coat + clear coat means 2 stages
base coat + lots and lots of clear coat still means 2 stages, right?
2) Lexus IS Black Obsidian (some people say Black Onyx) is a single stage, meaning no clear coat only base?, which also means you spend less money on paint material? Because I heard that clear coat is the expensive thing and the more and more you add clear coat, more expensive it gets?
3) Does anyone know what brand was used to paint IS 250 black obsidian cars in the factory? Hope they didn't use Japan products...I understand that in a factory it's a whole different process (high temperature) but couldn't we use same brand and same line at least... I want to match the factory paint as close as possible.
4) So each paint brands also have different quality lines, right? And for example, is PPG's Omni good enough for factory level?
5) And a stupid question... does cold weather have any impact on painting job? I know the shops have inside painting place..oven? but I was just wondering...
Thanks in advance for your comments!

Surprising that Black Obsidian is a two stage... Then to match the factory-level, how much clear coat is should I put up there?
And what line/branch from Dupont would it be?

I was confused cuz many people were arguing it's a single stage..
So.. three coats of base + two coats of clear would be good match with factory?
Any recommendation on what to use from Dupont?

toyota still uses single stage paint till this day
I know for fact 202,040 that came on MKIV Supras has no clearcoat
040 that came on just about every Toyota has no clearcoat, that is why when you see a few years old white Toyota,it looks faded & chalky, Camrys and Corollas are notorious for that
not to be a smart-*** or anything, but I've been in automotive body/paint industry for nearly 20 years
and to the OP, just find a reputable shop and stop thinking too much
