Default Replace battery annually now

So I happened to glance through the 2009 scheduled maintenance on Lexus.com to see any changes... there's a few minor checks added, but the big one I noticed is, every 10,000 miles it says to replace the Smartkey battery.

Which sounds a lot like "Add $25 for a battery change to every other scheduled visit regardless of if it needs it"

Just a heads up for folks who hit the dealership regularly.

Yeah no need for that, I had my key in the washing machine cycle and I cracked it open to make sure the water didn't leak (which it didn't). It just runs on those watch batteries that are like 5 bucks for a pack of 10.

These batteries aren't easily found at your local Walmart or Walgreens. But you can buy them for a couple of bucks apiece on the Bay. I bought a card of six, put five in the freezer and a spare one in my ash tray ready to go when the battery finally goes out. Five minutes of advance planning will save you a $25 bill from Mr. Lexus.

Oh, I just go the mall and usually they have watch stores or the kiosk that sells watches, I just get my batteries from them.

I got mine at Radio Shack. I bought 2. I keep the spare in my owner's manual case in the glove box - so it's in the car if needed.

Yup, the dealership tends to blow smoke up your @ss when it comes to certain things, and this is one of them. I got my spare batteries from Battery Bob (he has every battery you could think of, and he provides free/fast delivery).

Wow...your dealerships suck. Every time I've needed a new battery, with my old LS400, and even my GS300 now, I walked in to the dealership, told them my key's dying, and they replaced it, and I walked out. No charge.

Good tip. My car is starting to be over 2.5 yrs. Will get the battery from Fry's or RatShack this weekend. Always wonder what happened when the smartkey's battery runs out.
