Yeah no need for that, I had my key in the washing machine cycle and I cracked it open to make sure the water didn't leak (which it didn't). It just runs on those watch batteries that are like 5 bucks for a pack of 10.
You can easily find the CR1632 battery on eBay. If the dealer autmatically changes it and charges you $25, raise hell. If you do it yourself every year, it's like a $1 or $2 each time. I bought a 5 pack on eBay, and replaced it about 4 months ago (1 year old) after an incident where the car woudln't detect the key. If you keep extras lying around, you really should never have a problem.
