Default questions regarding spare wheel

Hey guys i have a is250 AWD . I have the 17" stock wheel + tire. In the trunk I have a donut spare.

i just got my new set of 18" wheels and want to know if i can fit a full wheel into the trunk where the spare is NOW... or do i need to get some other part instead of the current adapter that the spare fits into in the trunk? anyone know?

i know not many IS have a DONUT as their spare.. so that is why i ask.. it doesnt look like a full wheel can fit in there...?

thanks

I'd like to know the same. I'd hate to have to roll on the dount.

I have thought about it too because that donut is ugly! But in my case, I have the RWD staggered setup and would hate to have a spare that fits the front and then have a flat happen in the rear.

HA thats funny i NEVER even thought of that..soo happy i dotn have staggered, not to mention staggered wheels are more expensive...

.. another question because of this.. can current staggered setup drivers use the donut on any of their wheels? or what? if you dont understand what i mean.. if i have 17" stock wheels then the donut is ok... is it still ok to use the same donut if i put on 18" wheels? is the size of the whole wheel different or where there is more rim, there is less tire to compensate? i always wanted to know this...

basically is 17" wheel+tire the same size from tip to tip across as the 18" or is the 18" 1 inch longer tip to tip?

the spare is only for emergency use, get you home/get you to the shop, not for prolonged use, even if your running 20" staggered setup it'll be ok.

Exclamation

Our US Spec IS Trunks are manufactured to only hold the Spare small donut.

It can NOT hold a Full size 17" or 18" Wheel & Tire

^Joe is correct. To fit a full-size wheel in your trunk, you're going to have to custom-fabricate something akin to what Glen (RMMGS4) did in his car, where you have a circular cutout for the wheel to stick through the spare covers.

Are these new wheels TPMS compatible? If you're planning to use a different set of TPMS with your new wheels, you will need to go to the dealership to have the sensors programed. If you're switching the TPMS for your OEM rims to your new rims, then you can go to your favorite local reputable tire/wheel shop to have them put on.

For instance, I swaped my OEM wheels for another pair of OEM wheels and had my TPMS transfered from one set of wheels to the other. I had this performed at America's Tire. They did a fabulous job switching everything over (including the balance and mount process). As for alignment, some choose to get it done with a wheel change and some don't (you should get an alignment done to your car at least once a year anyway).

forget about putting the spare in the trunk. throw it in your back seat! you don't sit there anyway.

well.. my new wheels are not TPMS compatible...so im gonna do the TPMS pipe bomb fix...

but prolly not for 1-2 months... the stupid sensors cost 400$ for a set... i dont want to take my originals out because then when i return the car i might have to buy new ones if they get damaged during removal and install...

im just gonna suck it up and drive with the error lights for a few months.
