I'm referring to the color codes. an 06 i believe is black onyx i think 202. on 08 it's 212 obsidian.

Any differences? Major or minor?

 

i believe onyx is more of a matte look...and obsidian is more shiny

 

i see in your signature that you have an 06 obsidian? i though obsidians came out in 07 and later

I have Obsidian, and yes it's shinny. Even when my car is dirty, I can still see my reflection.

2006 IS's was not offered in Obsidian Black. Only Black Onyx.

from my perspective of the two paints, black onyx resembles that of the black onyx stone (go figure with the name xD). it's slightly lighter than obsidian which results in a slightly less reflective property compared to obsidian. the difference is minute and you won't notice it unless you intentionally compare it side by side.

 

ok, so the reason why i'm asking is because I have an obsidian 08 and i'm interested in buying a roof spoiler which i THINK may be in black onyx.

is it a big deal?

 

um maybe. roof spoilers are colored matched anyway since they're not made by lexus. you'd have to check it out in person to really know.

 

you probably will never notice it if its a roof spoiler. black is black.

 

You can't even tell a difference. I have an 06 Black Onyx and just ordered and installed the obsidian GFX front, side, rear, and spoiler, you can't even tell they are two different colors.

Yeah, I think you'll only be able to notice the difference in the two colors if you were going to replace a door, hood, or something major. As for roof spoiler, I think you'll be okay.
