Default Having problems with headset and handsfree?

I recently started using an old BT (plantronics 640) headset, but have found that when it is powered on and paired to my phone, my phone will no longer connect to my car.

Anyone else have this problem, or able to connect a headset and your car via the handsfree connection?

Am I going to have to cook my phone's ROM to set BT device priority?

Your phone can only link to one of them. If you are in the car then you either need to select the handsfree "or' turn off the headset? But what you are experiencing is normal. Just like if you have 2 cell phones and get in the car with both paired to the car it will take phone #1 as its set with priority. I had to do this with my last job and switch back and forth.

How do you like the headset? I have never cared for any of them. Have a little box from my business cars growing with all the ones I have tried in the past.

you can set the priority if the phone allows it.

^^what he said - dead on the money - same thing here. Jabra BT500 once connected is a jealous biotch and won't allow the handsfree to talk to the phone.

I understand what you are saying, but what I don't get is why you can't design a phone (master) system that allows multiple devices (slaves) to connect at the same time. All you would have to do is assign a priority to each slave device and it would work like a champ.

An alternative to this is that each slave device could have an active and passive mode. For my plantronics 640, for example, when it is in it's charging/carrying cradle (which is always when I am not talking on it), it is in passive mode. If I make a call from my phone, the 640 doesn't pick it up unless I remove it from the cradle. Similarly, I feel like the handsfree system on my car should be active when my headset is cradled.

I like the 640, it seems to work well for me. There doesn't seem to be any signal degradation when using it, and it is fairly comfortable, even though I'm not one of those toolbags that wear it 24x7x365 (you know who you are).

maybe when I get some free time I'll write a program for my phone that makes this work. Any chance you're on windows mobile too?
