Default Need Help on (Wheels &) Tires (for staggered AWD) please...

So my X-Pac rims are coming in today and I will be placing some Eagle F1 All Season tires on them this week. I went to the tire shop yesterday to get some pricing info and they suggested this setup for my IS250 AWD:

Front - 225/40
Rear - 255/40

Would this setup be alright??

according to the tire size calculator, http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

it says that your rears are gonna be bigger by 3.8%

For AWD models, you want to keep the overall wheel/tire rolling diameter the same.

You should try doing what Mercedes does and go 225/40 in the front and 255/35 in the rear to keep the size difference to about 0.2%

What you've listed is the OEM setup. In other words, that's what Lexus put on those wheels from the factory. You could probably go a little smaller or bigger if you wanted to though.

Edit: Good point about AWD, Lexus doesn't stagger AWD from the factory FWIW.

So 255/35 for the rear will be best?

Yea, know that Lexus doesn't stagger wheels for AWD, but there's been a bunch of people here who are running stagger for their AWD and aren't reporting any problems.

Checked that size on here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
and it's 1.3% diff. vs. 0.2% running 255/35 rear.

^^the other site allows you to enter the rim width. this is more accurate then just the tire if that makes sense. try the site I posted and put in the 18" rim...it will show you the rotation and circumference difference. it was less then 1% difference with those sizes.

225/40-18 front (circumference = 78.79)

for the rear, it states: "Rim Width Range: 9 - 10 in"
Does that sound right?

I just noticed that?? interesting as I put in 18" for the rims so not sure why its changing it? I would call Discount Tire or Tire Rack. Just tell them the size of the rims and the front tire size and you need same rotation front to rear for your AWD and see what they say. they should be able to do over the phone for you.
