Just called up both Tirerack AND Discount tires....they both gave me different answers:

Discount Tires suggested 255/40 for the rears. Anything else will be too short. I told him about 255/35 for the rear and the guy said "No that will not work because it's too short"

Tire rack suggested 255/40 for the rears AT FIRST. Then I said what about 255/35 and he brought out his calculator and said that would be PERFECT fit.

NOW I'M HELLA CONFUSED!!

^^thats messed up...did you tell them that the rims are for RWD and you want them on the AWD?

i guess another option is to get the same rims front to rear and run the same tire. there is minimal difference in them?

I think the tire you had for the rear is right. I dont want to give you bad info though. Hasn't someone with the AWD done this?

like i said earlier in the thread, i'm sticking with 225/40-18 up front and 255/35-18 in the rear. if mercedes does it on their cars from the factory, then i'm pretty sure it's good for your set up. plus the calculators tell the numbers like it is: 0.24% difference

OYY! So I've decieded to take a plunge and purchased TWO 18x8 wheels from Sewells (not cheap! even after the discount code)

Now I need to figure out what I'm going to do with the spare TWO 18x8.5 wheels

lol you should have just kept them. but, if you want to sell them, you could post in the proper thread in the main forums or ebay them off.
