Default help: doing self servicing

I need to go in for the 15000 mile service and i've got a couple questions. sorry i'm new at this.

1) i'm going to be changing the oil so i'm wondering which oil filter to get. sewell parts and l-tunedparts both have it and i'm wondering if either of them are different/better.

2) i've got an IS250 AWD, so i'll be needing to do a tire rotation. is there a specific rotation position i should be following? for example flip right and left? front and back?

3) and what oil would you recommend? and also is there anything else i should check?

1. I dont think it matters which you get it for. I think both have a promo code to get a discount. I know sewell does for sure.
2. front to back but no crossing or flipping.
3. Most people are using 0w-20 due to higher tolorance. I am using 5w-30 Mobil synthetic.

Hope it helps. Have fun!

I just had my 15k service and the dealer owed me it otherwise, I would not have paid for it. They changed the wiper inserts (needed), air filter, in-cabin microfilter, oil (5w30 and I will be using Mobil 1 at 20k). Tires on the AWD should be front to back. I would avoid the dealer and do it yourself, it is quite simple.

Brian what did they screw up that they owed you?

My dealer owes me a full detail job for messing up my front bumper. Still miffed about that since it only had 100 miles on it.

We'll Slee18,

At the 5k service, the tech maid me wait two hours on a beautiful day for a simple oil change when nothing was inspected under the hood as the dust covers were never removed and the rotation was never performed. I was ticked about it when I drove home 45 minutes and noticed (front wheel oem slightly scratched) this is how I knew. Then I popped the hood and noticed because the covers were dusty and not removed as the dust would have been disrupted. Long story short, service manager was apologetic and stated they had problems with the particular tech and comped the 15k. I was cool with that. My advice to her was to remove him and hire another person who wants to work as there are tons of people dying for a job in this market. That is my story and I can hear violins playing in the background as I typed this.

That song played as I reached for my phone to call the dealer back in disbelief. And to think Vangelis only made that for the early 80's film!!!

Thanks for the replies. I've got the oil filter ordered and waiting for it to arrive. And I'll be picking up the oil as soon as the filter arrives. The oil change from the DIY read up is quite simple and my Dad is familiar with it.

Tire rotation, as per what the owner's manual says is front to back. So again, easy. My wipers are fine so I'll leave that.

Brian, should i bother even changing the air filters/microfilters?

I would change filters! I already changed out my air filter to K&N and changed the in-cabin about 3 months ago.

It is pretty easy to do all if you have the equipment too. I had to take mine to a mechanic because the dealer put the filter on so tight I couldnt turn it. My mechanic broke 2 wrenches getting it off.

Good Luck Kuuqi!

Honestly,

I would wait till 20k. Make sure to set the in-cabin filter to re-circulate when changing via the glove box or you will damage the system (10 minutes tops). Air filter, that is extremely simple once you remove the dust covers and master the evil clips (LOL).

lol. thanks everyone.

i think i'll just leave the filters for the dealer to worry about. i might end up getting the f-sport intake and that'll have its own filter anyway. the microfilter..i'll change that if i go in for a TSIB. again, thank you!
