Default hid kit install require drilling???!!

i just order a set of hid conversion kit..

and i was going thru some of the diy threads on install and the one that everyone seems to link to shows that you have to drill a 1 inch hole???

doesn't stock bulbs need wires to come out?? so shouldn't there be a hole already???

im kinda confused..

Hey silversx,

The stock bulbs have wires, but the HID needs the ignition/ballast box to power the HIDs. This is to first fire the 50,000V needed to start the HID and then the 35W to maintain the lighting.

The stock wiring goes straight to the bulb. Since the box won't fit in the light housing, the wires need to come back out, go to the ballast, and then back into the housing to your bulb. Since the stock wiring hole won't fit all that, you need to drill.

Drilling is okay. The kit should come with a grommet that should seal out any moisture from the light housing. If you don't feel good about it, buy some high heat caulking material to seal it off.

BTW, it's really, really easy to do. You can either fork out the $3 to buy the drill piece yourself from Home Depot or ACE or any hardware store; or find someone in your area who has it.

In the humid midwest, moisture is inevitable without caulk. Anyone can IM me if they need help. I found my moisture issue comong from my harness loom.

hang on, all this is mute till you get the kit, wait till you have the kit in your hands then when you ask questions it will be much easier to understand what ppl are trying to explain. make sence?

Drilling is required for most if not all projector/1-piece headlight housings, which usually have a seperate connection port for all the wirings. There is a cap in the back of the headlight housing for bulb access, and that's where you need to drill the hole at to run the wires in and out of the housing.
