I would be interested to know how much fuel economy changes at different speeds. I would think that, with a decent Cd that the IS has that it would be somewhat less affected by higher speeds. Obviously, the engine/transmission has a 'sweet spot' speed as well.

Anyone tried this?

try a search, there are lots of threads about this. Simple answer is that many engines are not designed to handle anything over a certain octane.

All HWY driving I can go over 400 regularly. In my 80 city/20 hwy mix I usually hit right about 370-380 when the light comes on.

I am a pretty mild commuter and cruise at 65 on on the HWY, so MPG is fairly decent (24.0 lifetime on the car currently). Getting into the high 20s on the open road is relatively easy with a light foot and no jockeying about.

wow this is interesting to me because i have an 08 is250 awd and i have never seen the aprox range over 302 miles...maybe they changed something in the system from the later years??? i have noticed that it will say like 300 miles remaining but i can drive an additional 3 miles before it goes down to 299...

I have driven 400+ fairly regularly, probably due to mostly highway driving. In fact, my "range approx" screen usually shows above 400 miles when I fill up.

I always use the snow button and rarely does my car see 2 rpm's (unless going uphill). The drive is a quite different but time wise, i dont think i'm loosing many minutes reaching my destinations. I drive about 75% city and 25% hwy. Its good to know that the IS can get that many miles out of a tank of gas.
i do 350 miles on average. but i think i hit 400 before cause i was driving from LA to SF one time and got better gas mileage than normal.

i think it has a lot to do with stop n go vs HIGHWAY miles

Yup, same here. I usually get in the 375 - 425 range. When i drove to Vegas, i got 31-32mpg from SoCal which equated to over 400miles to the tank.

That or you got gas and didn't reset the trip counter
I always reset the trip odometer when I get gas. I got a calculated 29.197 mpg on 14.416 gallons. The indicated mpg was 28.4.
