I'm looking at between a new 08 IS250 or used 07 is250. the used one has 15K miles with plenty of tires and no mech. issues. one scratch 1.5" along one rim and some small knicks here n there. ive negotiated to $26k. any thoughts on this or should i pick up a new 08 for 32.5k? pros cons?
note that this is based on the prem/nav package no spoiler
It's all really going to come down to how much you can and want to spend. But I think as a unit, the new car is nicer than a used car.
I agree, is 32,500 ur OTD price? cause 26k plus tax and registration is alot more than 26 prob around 27-28k. A new car is a new car, but new cars always take a depreciation hit once u drive it off the lot. if u got the cash and can spare it go new. anything could of happened in 15k miles
I was dealing with the same last month.
Settled for a new 08. Exact color combo, no scratches, no pets, no kids, no spilled coffee in places you can't see. You got the point.
Go new. What's a few grand on a Lexus.
thanks for the replies. the prices i originally posted were before taxes etc on these vehicles...
I think I may go for used since the $6.5K savings is quite substantial and the vehicle was just serviced at the dealer and had a mechanics check as well.
I needed a new car last few months so I started looking getting online quotes. I always wanted the IS since it came out but then I got married on January and just down a new house so money was very tight. So we started out getting qoutes on 08 camry 4 cylinder. It was a nice car but notthing that I would drooling about. Then we started to look for use IS 250 on craiglist...I was pretty surprised that I see alot of IS sellers. Went check out a few cars but none that I wanted to buy, they either were high millage, high price, dont have the options I want, or some scratches and wears. I hate the fact that we have to pay tax for those used cars, so unless you find a very good deal or the price will end up only a few thousands less than the dealers price....After over a month, I gave up on the used IS250...So I ended up drove home a new 08 IS250....Drove it for about a month, felt the lexus luxury and all...now wife is driving it and I'm driving her 2000 solara , very good millage car indeed ! I still get to wash the IS every 2 weeks though haha.
Sorry for the boring story of life...Bottom line is that I didnt buy the used IS250 mainly b/c I like new cars better and I dont like to pay tax for the used car.

i feel you on the tax. the state is really double taxing. but fortunately there are ways to minimize tax on used vehicles if you know what i mean. in the end ive saved about $7600.

I think the new state tax law that they tax car's value, not how much you bought the car for ? Correct me if i'm wrong.
