Default Warranty?

I recently took my car in because the autoleveling on the headlights seemed to be off (to high). I made an appointment to go in and when I arrived they told me that this wasn't covered under the warranty. I was surprised that this wouldn't be covered. They charged me a fee to inspect and correct the problem. The headlight in fact needed to be recalibrated. The cost was about $120.00. I thought it odd that something like this isn't covered since that is a part that always is moving once you turn the car on. I wonder if that falls under the wear and tear department. Is there a standard list of things that aren't covered by the warranty. I guess I could ask my dealer ship but I thought I'd ask here first.

It's a 2006 350 and it has about 26,xxx miles on it. Stock HID lights.

I am shocked the leveling was changed from the factory setting without you manipluating it. They should have set it for free under warranty. You could have also set it yourself with a flathead screw driver and tape on a garage door. I think there is a DIY on here and a PDF of the headlight aim is floating around.

I think most people complain that the lights are set too LOW! So they might have assumed you messed with them. However, in this great country you are INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY. I'm astonished they charged you for this - I'd zap them good on their post service customer satisfaction survey.

Should definitely have been covered. I know there's a DIY around here also, I'll have to look for it.

I would ask for a refund for this service charge. At least an explanation of why this type of adjustment is not covered under warranty. Could have just been an error in billing.

Thanks xerxe for the info. I think I'll call the dealer and ask why this wasn't covered under the warranty.

Maybe check with Lexus Corporate to see if something like that should be covered under warranty.
