Insurance rates for IS...
are high! I just got my statement today and it went way up over my 2003 A4 turbo. I would have thought German cars are more expensive to fix than Asian cars (?). Or are our cars stolen more? Not sure what it is. I'm in Los Angeles btw.
cars are on a specific basis when concerned with thief....such as which cars get stolen alot and the cost of the car... neither of which apply to a IS...Cars cost to fix vary car to car... and how much damage a car takes in accidents its all information taken from the tests they do on the cars and such... plus the older the car is the less the insurance is...and cars that are involved in more accidents will have higher rates...and there are other numerous factors that go into the calculations... and how u used a 2003 A4 as a reference point, cars especially luxury cars get more and more safe each generation of cars (meaning absorbing more damage which translates to higher repair costs)...your audi A4 generation was first released in 2000... the 2IS was released in 2005...
PS the insurance rates are relatives low in comparison to BMW if I had gotten a 335i instead, my rates would have been over 600$ more...

I just had an accident with my '07--I hit a foot high curb swerving to avoid 2 other cars. The front end was damaged, and some mechanical equip behind the front grille. Side fenders and hood were in tact, they did not need to replace the headlights, foglights, AFS, or headlight washers--repair bill was $9500. It's not cheap--the body shop told me Lexus OEM parts (insurance required OEM if the car is less than 2 yrs old) are expensive.
However, when they do get into accidents, the 2IS is significantly more expensive to repair compared to its competition.

My insurance dropped quite a bit going from a Honda to my IS350. I pay less for my IS350 than I did for my (prior) GMC Canyon, Chevy Silverado 1500 4X4 and less than either my wife's Pilot EX or her EoS R32 (all at the same coverage level).
That is why I dropped State Farm and now have Farmers. I have a perfect record, multi line and many other discounts. State Farm is rediculous. My gen 1 IS300 was expensive to insure as well based on cost of repair. My insurance only had gone up $60 a year when I bought my 2gen a year ago. I was very happy about that considering how old the 1gen was.
Most if not all states have a minimum of liability insurance, but just about every loan issuing office will require full coverage on the vehicle in a retail installment contract in order for a clause called a "Loss Payee" which allows for the vehicle value to be paid to the loan issuer in the event of a total loss.
I have 21 Century and a perfect record. The 2003 A4 I had carried the same rate from new to this year. It was also the same rate as my 1999 Passat. Basically, nothing ever went up with my new cars, nor did it ever go down with my good record and aging. So I was surprised to see the IS250 rate jump. I Had always heard Audis were expensive to repair, but I guess it's Lexus. Thanks for the above replies, I'm learning much.

Since you are in California and if you have a clean driving record, give Wawanesa a try. I pay about $100 a month with $500 deductible with medical coverage, rental car and significantly high amount of coverage.
