Question OEM HID bulb?

Hello,

It's been two years since i purchased my car, and a couple days ago, the driver's side headlight went out. The funny thing is, just went i ordered a pair of Xtreme 6000k replacement bulb from Xenondepot, i noticed tonight, the driver's side headlight turned on for second or so and went out again. I tried a couple times turning the headlights on and off, and everytime, the same thing happened (driver's side would turn on for a sec). So my question is does the bulb need to be replaced or something is wrong with the wiring?
I will call my dealership on Monday, but i thought i should ask on here first. it seems like this forum knows more than the dealership 99% of the time.

Thanks for you help.

kuki

The OEM HID bulb is not D2S it is a D4S bulb. They look identical and can be easily swapped one for the other but they are different. They are brighter and operate at 4800K vs 4300K (D2S) their light output is brighter too.

More info can be found here. http://www.hidexpert.com/pxeneco_kit.html

Whatever you do, don't install D2S in place of D4S.

do you have your headlights on the AUTO setting? from my understanding it can dramatical shorten the life of bulb.

I took my car to the dealership this morning, worry something wrong with the ballast or electrical system because the OEM bulb (burned out) keep turning on for a second and went out. They just called me back and told me that they ordered another bulb for me and it covered under warranty. Man, i am so happy that i dont have to pay for it. Never heard that light bulb covers under warranty. I guess i wait until the new bulb goes out before i put in my Xtreme 6000k bulbs.

thanks everyone.

You bet that's a warrenty repair. I once had a whole headlight assembly replaced and new seat skins on an Altima. Also, what one dealer may not warrenty under bumper to bumper, another may. The delaer gets re-embursed from Toyota anyway.
