Just finished up my engine covers! I had my local auto paint supplier mix me up some 077 SFP into spray cans. I used a Valspar high build primer, sanded it down, applied the SFP base coolor sanded that down as well with 2000 grit. The pearl coat matches impeccably, although hard to capture in a photo. I used many thick, wet coats of clear to help fill in the texture that remained, wet sanded with 2000 grit before applying a final coat of clear and the black accents. Finished her up with a plish and I couldn't be happier with the result, especially being my first painting experience.
Thought I'd add my engine cover. I just finished it along with my strut brace. The tri-coat white matches the car, and everything was cleared with a 2k matte.
That looks really good! love the white with matte black.
I painted mine with rose gold plasti dip for wheels, I added a little metallic and some pearl while drying. It should be able to return to stock when I decided.
Also found a Lexus Original CF cover on eBay with some slight scratches for cheap.
Oh man, the matte finish looks really nice! What brand for the white and black did you use?
The white is Starfire Pearl tri-coat (paint code 077). It was mixed into rattle cans at my local paint store. I actually had it mixed when I painted my roof spoiler about a month ago, and still had plenty left over. The black was a high heat matte rattle can that I had laying around. I hand painted the "V6" with acrylic paint. The 2K matte tied everything together.
First off, your 10 yo boy has a GREAT eye. He's a natural design-guy in the making!
Second, who did the work on your cover? I'm in SoCal (and I see you're in NorCal) and I'm in search of a person/company that is willing/able to paint my cover(s) w/ precision and care. ...and it looks like your finished product is just that.
