Default "clunk" from rear end when coming to a stop

ok, so lately I've noticed this "clunk" or "thump" when coming to a complete stop from the rear end. It feels like it's coming from the rear end gears, almost like there is a large amount of pressure that's suddenly being released. The faster I decelerate the more pronounced it is. I can not only hear it, but I feel it as well. I'm going to assume this isn't normal? Has anyone else had/have a similar issue and what, if anything have you done about it?

I'm up for an oil change in less than 2k miles so I'll be mentioning it to my dealer then, but if this is a known issue, I'd like to go there with as much info as possible.

Oh, this is on an '06 IS350 with just over 38k miles.

Thanks.

Rear diff fluid needs to be changed?

I personally wouldn't let that go for to long without having the dealer check it out.

I would hope the fluid doesn't need to be changed at a mere 38k. Isn't that suppose to last 100+k? I don't even drive my car hard very often at all. Still on the original tires and pads. I'm definatly taking it in, no question about that, my only concern is that it doesn't do it ALL the time and they may not be able to duplicate the problem.

It does certianly feel like it's coming from the rear differential, so who knows...

I had that noise for awhile on my Toyota Sienna van. It especially did it on wet mornings. It turned out to be something with my brakes. My husband adjusted it somehow and it stopped. I"ll ask him what he did and add it to this thread. You never know.

Well after paying closer attention to the issue, it isn't from the rear end, but form the tranny. It seems like as you slow down and the tranny downshifts through the gears, the 2>1 shift can be a bit harsh sometimes. It can be felt in the rear too becuase of RWD I guess.

yeah...i have the same problem...i happens to me when the car is sitting for awhile...(lets say for like 3 to 4 hours)..i would jump into my car and shift the car to drive and i would hear it. a clunk..sounds like the brakes ..i think..den i would take off down the block and i would brake at the stop sign and i hear it again..it sounds like it coming from underneath of my rear...so i took it in for a check up in the dealership...they said it was my brakes...it got fix..didnt hear it for a couple of days..a week later it came back...DAM THE DEALERSHIP

Default My clunk noise comes from the rear brake (I think)

I have about 4000 miles and this problem started to show up at about 500 miles back.

After parked for a few hours or more, when I first drive the car, there is this clunk sound coming from the rear brake the moment I lift my foot off the brake pedal. This happens when the car is moving (when I am trying to slow down) or at a complete stop (when I get ready to go again).

It usually goes away after I've driven for a mile or so.

Mine really feels like is a rear brake problem, something is sticking back there.....
