Snow does reduce acceleration pretty significant but never tried in the rain. Everytime I give the car a little too much gas the TRC comes on and you can feel it cut the power.
For better traction? Hmmm maybe, the snow setting doesnt really look at how your wheels are spinning, more like it changes the response of the throttle. In snow mode, the throttle response is a bit slower. But the best bet is to just drive slow through wet conditions.
I don't think snow mode would be particularly useful in the rain. The best "off label" use for snow mode is when crawling forward in heavy stop-and-go bumper-to-bumper traffic, where the difference in throttle response and shift logic make it much easier to drive smoothly.
Snow mode doesn't do anything for traction--it just changes the shift points for the tranny. So--it will upshift much sooner. I haven't had the car thru the winter yet, so I can't even say if snow mode helps in the snow (my AWD will, though).
