1,000 idling RPM? Normal??

I just noticed that when I start my car it idles as 1,000 RPM but when I shift it into R or D and let it idle, it idles at 600RPM. Is that normal? 1,000 seems a bit high. It's at 1,000 even when my car is warmed up.

I have this issue in my RX and it can be affected by things as simple as climate.

On cold cycle that's not high at all. I've seen cold start idle at 1200 - 1500 rpm for a very short time when it's really cold outside.
