So is the IS unsafe on wet roads? I'm trying to learn from posts like this so it doesn't happen to the next person or me. Should we be more caution about driving through wet roads or is this a unusual occurance. I believe his story but man, the IS flipped several times from sprinkler water. Thats like scary man.
Could there have been oil from the road mixed with the water? Were you running stock tires or diff brand?
ALL CARS ARE UNSAFE when you go from dry to wet in a flash, hydroplaning. Didnt you watch the German F1 a couple of wks ago? That was the perfect example of hydroplaning. AND YES one should ALWAYS be more cautious when the road is wet... duh
yes the VDIM were on...u guys know how much my insurance co.. will compensate? i have full coverage...i tried to look through kellys but it only listed 250s..

this is true but maybe the drive wasnt aware of the wet pavement. that wreck must've changed your perspective of driving now, good thing ur alive. good luck with the insurance company.
I'm glad the OP is safe. That said, PLEASE don't buy another Lexus. You're murdering my insurance rates.
On another note, you're not only lucky to be alive from the accident, but you're lucky the neighbors didn't throttle you. Be on the lookout for property damage lawsuits against you (at the very least) if that was in a residential neighborhood. I know if I saw someone roll their car in front of my house - which is on a street with a 20 mph speed limit - I'd first go out and make sure they're ok, then I'd smack them around.
Glad to see you walked away without any injury. That sounds and looks like a very serious accident. This is also a good testament to the safety rating of the IS. Did all of your airbags deploy?
I hope your insurance covers the whole thing and you will be back in the road with new IS soon. Good luck !
So are we sure it was hydroplane and not fish tail? Our cars being RWD fish tailing in wet is not going to be unusual. Actually, there is a turn that I take every day coming from work, if I take the turn a bit fast I can almost feel that my car's rear is slipping.
I think TL got upper hand on us on this issue since it is front wheel drive.
Sigh...
Glad you made out okay.
Can't believe you were in one piece when your car was actually destroyed at the level that even the pics were hard to tell it was a car.
I dunno. It seems like he already explained it. He lost control of the car, flipped it 3 times, sprinkler level water may be involved.... The facts are there. Sounds like excessive speed all the way.
I know we're piling on, but I'm really talking about all the accidents and crazy tickets I've seen on this forum in my 7 months here. We get a totaled car like once a month posted, we get guys driving 83 in 45 zones, and another guy asking about the 100 MPH red ring and radar detectors in 2 different posts this week. And of course the DVD movie while driving is always a popular request...
To me, the most important thing about these accident posts is not that he was ok and unhurt. The most important thing is that he hopefully learns from this and changes his driving, because if he doesn't, and ends up hurting other people, then that is just unforgivable.
sounds like excessive speed all the way huh? from what the OP said, he was driving the speed limit. This is exactly why I said what I said about not assuming anything.

Well, I'm gonna bite my tongue on this one. The OP says he was going at the speed limit, so that's the "official" record will have it at, though I still have my own idea of what really happened. Then again, what I say doesn't really matter on this.
Regarding this thread, I'm just going to assume that our cars are unsafe when it comes to a puddle of water going at the speed limit even with tires that have less than 5000 miles on them...

+1, what he said. The official record stands at what the OP said as he was the only witness to the event, and we are all glad jonjon83 survived to live another day. While everyone is saying how great the IS is for protecting the occupant (and it certainly worked in this situation), should we be worried that a car with a fairly low CofG (compared to an SUV) and equipped with sophisticated traction control systems to prevent this sort of occurance seemed to fail miserably handling this situation? Are we now vulnerable to skidding and rolling at 50 mph on a patch of road dampened by a short rain shower, or an errant sprinkler? If so we should be very concerned that there is a defect with the IS design and it's electronic systems. Be careful out there, and you may want to leave the IS in the garage if you expect any sort of dampness on the road. Makes no sense to put your vehicle or yourselves at risk.
