I've already issued a warning in this thread for posters to STAY ON TOPIC. I'll repeat it for certain members that are new and apparently don't heed such warnings. If this continues anymore, I WILL close this thread. If you don't have anything to add to THIS discussion, move on, please.

hahah just like my dad. He got a 92 4runner that is beat up as hell and always has problems but he is always changing stuff in it. He just wont part with the car and it just sits there

Wow this is something i've never thought of. my commute is right under 2 miles. I don't leave for lunch (I would if I could). But, that doesn't mean my car sits at home for the 118-126 hrs a week I don't spend at work. I'm still breaking my car in and if you average the number of miles I've put on the car so far, I'll still end up with over 13k in a year.

This type of use (frequent short trips of less than 5 miles) qualifies as 'extreme use' for an engine, but if you take care of it, you'll be fine. You can change your oil more frequently if you like, but I just posted a Blackstone used oil analysis where I went 10,000 miles before changing my oil and everything came back great. In fact, they told me to stay at a 10,000 mile OCI. Don't worry, your engine will be fine. I agree with al503 though - spend the money on a Blackstone UOA to make sure...

how funny ... i have the same dilema.. i don't have to wear a suit and tie everyday, but my commute is about one mile.. also in pasadena..
