Question back up camera

hello everyone, i got a IS350 with the sport package, unfortunately it does not come with the back up camera, which would be very helpful since i can't see out the back to well plus im going to tint my window soon which makes it even harder for me to see. i was wondering if anyone has installed any after market back up camera on there car and how was it and about how much did it cost you? thanks

I haven't done it, but you have to take into consideration a couple of things.

First, you need a Nav/TV screen. You can buy aftermarket Nav+DVD players to install in your car, and a good one (not a poor or great one, integrated into the dash) will be near $1500.

Second, you need a camera. Installation and intergration of the camera to the aftermarket player will be at least $500.

Expect to pay at least $2000 for a customized Nav+DVD player with back-up camera, installed.

You can always get something cheap for as little as around $500, but that's for an unintegrated little 4-inch screen/box sitting on top of your dash, possibly with no Nav or DVD function.

get a good screen around 700-1000 that can play dvd and all that other good stuff..do a serach a lot of guys on here installed after market screen and navi..a good back-up camera run around 100ish bucks.. if you can do the installation yourself and etc.. that would save you a ton of money.. overall price i say you can get a good set up for around 1000-1300.. not including labor.

I know a place where you can buy the Lexus backup camera and add it to your OEM nav... PM if you want the guy's details.

Edit: Sorry, never mind, forgot that the OEM nav doesn't give you the choice of no backup camera. Still, you can do the whole nav swap.

ouch. i remember test-driving a non-nav 2is and looking out the rear window. the trunkline was so high i could barely see anything out of the back. my condolences. /OT

i think there have been a few threads about fitting the OEM nav system into a non-nav-equipped 2is. i don't know how successful they've been, but it'd be a hell of a one-off project that you can look into. either it's that or an aftermarket system - though it'd probably cost as much as if you had outfitted your 2is w/ the OEM nav system...

then again, you could take a deeper look @ the wal-mart/target option as shown above.
