Default Headlight burned out

So last night I realized that my drivers side headlight was burned out, which seems odd since I've had the car less than a year. I don't think HID bulbs usually burn out so quickly. I know this topic has been posted, but I just had a few quick questions.

1) will the dealership warranty the bulb since it burned out so soon? (the women in service said 'not usually but it depends we'd have to see it.')

2) asuming they won't warranty it, am i better off having the service department fix it, or find a replacement and install it myself?

Unfortunately, bulbs are subject to "wear and tear" and may not be covered by warranty (just like batteries or the such). It really depends on your dealer if they'll cover the bulb.

If not, it's much cheaper to fix it yourself. Buy the bulb, and do a Search on how to do it yourself.

Bulbs are covered under the 4yr - 50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty...

I think.....

Especially, if its an earlier failure.

If you haven't touched them at all, they should warranty it.

I think they would cover that for you for free. If they dont, complain a bit and if they still dont, try again at another dealer!

This is when I'm glad that I haven't modded my bulbs, though I've been tempted many times. I haven't so much as LOOKED at my bulbs, so if they could possibly be covered by warranty, mine would be.

does anyone know the actual cost of the bulb? I'd have to do a cost+labor/cost+cost analysis before i decided to fix it myself if it came down to it.

how long did u have the car?

you should replace the bulbs in pairs (so the color will match)

Do you leave your lights set to auto? I've noticed that sometimes while driving at dusk the lights will switch on and off as I drive through areas that are alternately tree covered vs. wide open. When that happens, I switch my lights to either the "on" or "off" position, as I know that cycling is bad for HID lights.

Yep, and for that very reason (as well as pulling in and out of the garage) I never use the AUTO setting anymore for my headlights.

agree, plus it's annoying when the head lights turn on and turn off for a sec during day time.

Great, we have a luxury feature like auto-lights, but we can't use it? It just doesn't seem right. I would be absolutely SHOCKED if Lexus wouldn't pay for a bulb replacement within the 4yr/50k bumper to bumper warranty. Where in our manual does it say to avoid using the auto-headlight feature if you have HIDs. Or avoid using the high-beam flash-option on the hwy when trying to pass, if you have HIDS????
