HID question for all that have them
I upgraded from a 1999 Toyota Corolla to a new IS250 a month ago, and I have the HIDs. When I drive around at night, people on the other side of the road or highway seem to think that my high beams are on, and flash their high beams at me. I don't know much about HIDs, but are all of them essentially the same in terms of brightness (OEM versions)?
Does anyone else have this problem?
I suppose the thing I enjoy about them is that people get out of my way when I'm cruising down the highway, and my view of dark roads is great. They can be a bit intimidating, especially when the foglights are on. I should know, I used to have people with HIDs creep up on my Corolla until a month ago, and I used to get out of the way.

usually the HID's are pointed to the ground... drivers side slightly lower than passenger side.. either way... it's adjustable...there is a gray **** around the headlight.... i believe CCW is to raise the beam...and CW is to lower the beam. you could find more info here

It happens, its just people who dont understand/know about HID headlights. If you pay attention to cars that pass you at dusk and later youll notice that not many cars have them, and of the few that do I bet maybe 20% even know that the headlights are anything different. Its really going to get confusing to people when the LS600h comes out with LED headlights and other cars follow.
I dont know about the A8. And yes aftermarket HIDs are way too bright looking most of the time. I think thats because the are in a housing thats angled for non HID bulbs.
I'm sure that my high beam is off, because I flash my high beams back at them. Like others mentioned, maybe some drivers just need education in HIDs. If they don't see that my high beams are actually off, then they will have no hope of being educated.
This has happened to me at least 10 times in the past month, and it just happened to me again this evening on the way back from my poker game.
I spoke with some friends this evening that also happen to be Lexus owners, and they simply said that they ignore any criticism of their headlights. They merely said that these types of headlights are very common inside of Houston's city limits, but when you go 5 miles outside of Houston, they become less common.

Well, it happened to me again last night on the way back from Buffalo Wild Wings. I was driving down the road and had a typical Texas hick flash his high beams at me (no offense to anyone in the non-urban parts of Texas). I then flashed my high beams back at him. Do people just 5 miles outside of the Houston city limits not understand the concept of HID headlights?
I was ticked off to the point that I stopped by the dealer this afternoon to ask about my HIDs, and to get them checked out. Dealer said that the angle of the headlamps is perfect, with the driver side pointed just slightly lower than the passenger side (this is the norm). He then compared it to another IS that was on the lot by lining up my car and the other IS in front of a wall. Sure enough, both sets of headlights were calibrated the same.
I guess I'm over-reacting a bit, but it gets annoying when people repeatedly flash their high beams at you. Are people just ignorant, or are they jealous?

LOL sticksville... sorry but reading the posts about ppl flashing the hi-beams is kinda funny. On Oahu here its JDM/DTM central and just about everyone has HID's. Due to the high cost of living everyone lives at home so even grandpa learns what HID's are from the kids/grandkids cars.
