I was actually expecting $500.

Some people scratched the wood console, and replacing that is about $1200. If you crack the nav screen, it's $6000.

The price of luxury...
PhilipMSPT:

I frankly disagree with your view of life. Apparently, your theory justifies paying any price for every single component of the car just because the car is made by Lexus and they say it is "luxury" car. According to you, it's justify to pay $500, $1,000 or even $1,500 because it is a "luxury" car. Why not pay $2,000, after all it's a luxury car. For an "injection molded plastic and foam" aka engine cover which is an "extremely complicated" part to make, why not pay $3,000 for it.

First, this is $30k plus car. Second, parts prices varies all across the world and the states. Third, it seems to me that your theory is exactly the same as the dealers' because, of course, if they are proven correct, the money flows.

No disrespect, but there has to be reasonable limits for everything in life.

Best regards,

Warrionex

Those littles plastic clips that hold the surrounding engine cover in place are like ~$6 or so I think. The parts guy hooked me up with his pricing (~$1) though.

$250 doesn't sound too out of the question. A little pricey, but not too unreasonable. However, I wouldn't pay $250 for it.

Think about it:
Illuminated scuff plates - $169
Black Pearl Badges - $202
GFX front lip - $289
Aluminum Pedals - $91
And these are the special Sewell prices they give us.

I think those are in the same category: a bit pricey but not too outrageous.

I guess it just make something more clear...it's best to get an idea of what something will cost to replace, before you do something like paint it.

To each his own, but why would you feel the need to paint something that can't be seen unless you open the hood? Same question as to the value of spending $250for something that no one can see or even taking the time to strip the paint, unless it's physically damaged and can't perform the function for which it was intended.

Becuase you can see it. I would do it for myself and not everyone else. The same reason I would do anything for my car. Because I like it.

I guess they don't figure you'll actually never need more than one.

Because I am lazy! haha. I was just wondering how much a new one would cost. but honestly, unless you have seen the IS250 engine cover, you wouldn't know how ugly it is. PLUS, I have that front strut bar, and it's black, soooo a shiny silver and black underneath it on the engine cover looks darnnnn good!!

My old GMC truck was $38,000......Luxury, I think not. but damn expensive, so why is everything for that truck so damn cheap?? makes you think. BUT you do pay for the name when it comes to the replacement parts and that. Also, it's a friggin' lexus haha.

Actually, the 250 covers are painted as well. Turn it upside down and you'll see what it looks like unpainted.
