I've ordered this, hopefully it will be here in a day or so.
I've heard of the Belkin kit causing ground loop interference on the BMW forums. I recently bought the Monster cable charger (it has a 1/8 mini adapter as well) and it is causing a some of your typical whining noise. I think I'll go Vaistech in the near future.

Default Ipod cable

This is the cable that I used for my 60gb video:

All you need to do it connect 12v+, ground, and then a adapter from RCA to mini headphone jack, and you are done! You will only have 1 plug for the ipod on the bottom which provide power (charging) and music the same time with just 1 single cable.

Where did you pick that up from? also, do you get any engine noise with that setup?

They are made by a company called "PAC" and you can find them at many store online, or even ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/PAC-IC-RCA-IPOD-...QQcmdZViewItem
I got mine for around $20. I don't have engine noise with mine, it depends on where you tap your 12v+ from, that can make a different.

I have the Belkin Cup Mount and it's okay, but not ideal. I'd love to see your setup. Did you do anything special to run the cables out side of the center console? I'd like to have all the cables hidden.

Thanks,
Tim
Back from afar, pics follow. (when these links break, as I'm sure they will, try http://picasaweb.google.com/2007lexu...RAM_DIMAndIpod)

As I mentioned, I have a Radio Shack 90 degree one into two 12-volt adapter, a 12-Volt firewire power adapter into a FW cable on a retractable nub, a second USB power adapter for the crackberry and other accessories that take USB power. The audio portion of the RAM-DIN cable is washed thru the GLI you see buried in the console before hitting the aux-in (this is available at Crutchfield for like $20, IIRC).

This entire setup is going to be replaced with the vaistech stuff once I have the time to do it. With some creativity, I think the cables could be stashed, but it's temporary for me so I'm not that motivated to do so.

Agreed. I just got my SIK cable in the mail yesterday and it blows my previous connection out of the planet. I can save battery life on my iPod by not having to turn the volume all the way up just to hear anything! Thanks for linking me to this!

Im kinda digging the second cable that was posted up bc since it has that wire that connects directly to the battery I could put a switch on it and cleanly mount it to the left of the steering column and decide when I want to charge the ipod and not.

Does this allow you to control the IPOD via the nav screen, view song titles, etc? If not, what setup would? How hard to install? Thanx.

Yep, have a couple of those actually. You can pick them up on ebay fairly cheap.

No way man, this is just an audio cable used to help you tap into the audio out of the I/O connector on the bottom.
