Default Help with Homelink

Hi everyone

I'm new to the forums, but have been reading various threads for a while now. Finally got my IS250 today

I live in a condo where the garage door is controlled by a remote with a series of buttons you need to press to open the door.

I'm having trouble programming the Homelink for it. I hold my transmitter close to the mirror and it starts to blink slowly, so I hold down the first button for 2 seconds, then the next, then the next, and then press enter... But the Homelink doesn't start flashing fast notifying me that it's learned the sequence. It just keeps blinking slowly.

I've tried to program it a few times now, running up and down between my unit and the garage trying out different things, but with no luck

If anyone's got some tips on what to do, it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks

Ok.

If you are unfamiliar with homelink, this is how it works.

First you clone the Remote.

Then you Program the Remote.

Looks like you cloned it.

Now program the clone to your garage.

Typically, you need two people for this.

1 person would go and press the program button at the garage door opener.

2 person would press the homelink button.

Now it should work.

Make sense?

Try it out and let us know.

Before you begin, hold down button 1(all the way left) and 3 together to reset the whole system.

It take some zen patience to get it right.

I also live in a condo and could not program my homelink.

Like istundra said, you need to switch the gate into "training" mode so that it will give out a signal that can be copied by the remote (your homelink) otherwise it won't work. This is for security reason so that someone that doesn't live in the condo won't be able to copy the code even if he had his hands on your garage remote.

having said that, my condo manager said that all remotes must be controlled by her office and only the official key fob remotes is allowed to be used to operate the gate so she will not allow me to use homelink to learn the code. Thus I cannot turn the gate into training mode so my homelink is useless at the moment until I have my own house.

you need to "reset" the system first by erasing everything stored. then re-program the buttons.

I could not program mine until I "reset" them first....now works like a charm!

It is actually really easy.

Clone the Remote to Homelink.

Then Program your Homelink to the Opener.

Simple as that.

Regarding security gate transmitters, those cannot be cloned.

Homelink is meant for Residential Openers, not Commercial Openers.

You can always try to delete all codes from your homelink and try again. It may work.

Goodluck!

That sucks, I bet if you pop open that little box by the gate theres a learning button right there that you can hit and do it yourself! lol

Geeze you guys are making it a whole lot more complicated than it really is.

It took me 5 minutes to program the buttons to open the gate to my apartment complex, the garage, and my parents garage. None of it required putting any thing in training mode.

The manual says to push the button on the remote and on the mirror for 20 seconds until it starts to blink rapidly. I found that this process can sometimes take 30-60 seconds so be patient. I waited sometimes up to a minute for the thing to start blinking fast. That's all there was to it.

The gate at your apartment might have a rolling code. If that's the case, it will not work if you only "clone" the garage door remote.

You will have to press the "learn" or "training" button on the actual garage door opener itself. Talk to your apartment manager.. they will know how to help you since I'm sure plenty of people that live there have cars with Homelink.

Yes. Rolling Codes will require programming from the Opener.

Non Rolling Codes will require cloning of the remote ONLY.

I had to put my garage doors in learning mode... maybe you have older ones... Any that support HomeLink and rolling codes have to be placed in learning mode after the code has been copied from the original remote.

let me see if i can make this easier for everyone. most people i have explained seemed to get it to work after they tried!!! please give this a shoot!!!

1. first push and hold both of the outside buttons together on your homelink in your car and wait for the light to flash rapidly. this has cleared out anything that was in there from the dealer testing or a previous owner
2. push one of the three homelink buttons in your car that you want to train to your opener. (please make sure you are clear of your garage door when doing this!!!!) while pushing and holding any one of the 3 buttons on your homelink (do not let go) push the button from your garage door opener and hole them both till you get the rapid flash.
3. if you have rolling code opener (most are these days) now get out of your car if you dont have anyone to help. you can do this with one person (i did) most openers next to where the light goes in will have a red or green colored button. push and release this button (i must say do not hold this button as it will erase all memory of the opener and anything you have programmed, key codes, transmitters, ect...okay so back on track. after you push that button you have about 60 seconds to get in your car and push the same button you trained with your transmitter. you should see a flash of the garage light to confirm that you have programmed your homelink.
4. enjoy your homelink!!!!

Good luck, you may PM me if you have trouble. i will walk you thru it if i can be of help!!!
