Default 10K Service

Hey guys just wondering if I really need the entire service or could I get away with just an oil change and then a service at 15k? Not trying to be cheap just don't understand why my pollen filter needs to be changed at 10k. Any thoughts? Also, do you recommend going to Toyota over Lexus due to the decreased cost? Thanks

Just do the oil change if you dont want to spend the money. Thats all you actually need. I would recommend lexus bc its been my experience that toyota does not nearly baby your car like lexus does. They are more grease-monkeyish and I worry they are more willing to scratch or damage or touch the leather somewhere with their nasty greasy hands somewhere and **** me off.

At my 10k just got the oil change and at 15k the same thing. My service rep actually didn't recommend the *major* service until 30k.

Toyota can pretty much do the work on your Lexus for 1/4 of the cost maybe even more. If your Lexus dealership is far away then that is something to look into. They use the same parts which Toyota gets for cheaper and the labor rate isn't as well.. *fancy.*

Does anyone feel as if its a crime to ask how much service will cost? LOL its like they give you this look like *You have to ask?!*

In November, I bought parts at irontoad.com, and it's easy to replace the pollen filter, and the air filter (see your manual). I got oil filters, too, just so I wouldn't have to wait for the Toyota dealer to order them (only takes a day, though). Here were the prices at that time...

Code Name Quantity Price/Ea. Total
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
90430-12031 Oil drain plug gasket 2 $0.80 $1.60
87139-07010 Interior cabin a/c filter 2 $24.00 $48.00
04152-YZZA3 2-wheel drive oil filter kit 3 $4.33 $12.99
17801-31110 Engine air filter 2 $23.83 $47.66
Shipping: UPS ground to the 48 states: $13.98
Sales Tax: $0.00
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total: $124.23

I didn't have my own oil filter when I got my 10k oil change done, and I think they charged me about 45 bucks.
Lexus will charge a lot more.

If you don't know what they do during those scheduled services, just check your service guide booklet that came with your lexus bible. You know, the other booklet besides the Owner's Manual?

=P

Oh yea about that pollen air filter, the guys over at Solaraguy.org and I all did the following: Instead of buying a new pollen filter which costs quote $24, we went to Home Depot and bought a central air filter for your homes. You know the ones that are like 24 in by 24 in? Get the 3m Pollen ones that are purple. They are nice and thick and you can cut out abut 3 or 4 filters with just one sheet that costs you what, 12 bucks?

Here's a link to that post:

It's the 6th post by kgzero1

I used to have a Solara 2gen and I traded it in for the IS 250 AWD

What an upgrade lol
