Default IS vs. Plastic Cone

Okay i was cruising down this 4 lane highway and the left 2 lanes were blocked off by cones and im going about 80 mph then out of nowhere a cone comes from beneath an SUV in front of me and BAM! no way for me to dodge it so it hits my front bumper dead on. cant really tell the extent of the damage since its dark right now but from the looks of it, it left skid scratches the area where the license plate is suppose to go and cracked the bottom portion of my bumper. the area right above the lip too!!!! i would havent mind had it hit the lip since thats easily replaceable but it cracked the bottom of the bumper!!!! grrrr gonna take pics tomorrow but a warning to all ISx50 out there... the plastic cone will always beat you!

It seems that these times are dark days for IS x50's...

So many IS' being damaged, including mine .

Were you driving really close to the car in front of you?

yah because traffic was slowing down due to the blockage of the 2 lanes so i was braking from 80 and then the evil villain appeared and hurt my baby...

O man that's all rather unfortunate. First few months I drove mine, i swear all sorts of objects were hitting my car on the daily commute on the 405. I even had a thread regarding flying sand hitting my windshield.

Sometimes I hate driving at night as potholes are almost invisible and so are random things just on lying the highway when you're going fast. Near my house, I see a lot of roadkills and the thought of hitting those or even running over a dead one sucks. I just realized all those things mean more to me now after I've gotten the car.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I really hate that people don't secure things well enough when transporting goods. Just the other day I was driving on the freeway and there were about 3-4 plastic chairs (the kind you find at backyard parties) scattered along the lane 1,2 and 3. Horrible I tell you...just an accident waiting to happen. On the other hand, I am very glad to hear that you are okay because in the worst case scenario that cone could have gotten under your car and went into your wheel well locking up your wheels. Point being...Glad your safe.

That is unfortunate, but you probably shouldn't have been going 80mph with 2 lanes of a 4 lane road closed. I obviously wasn't there so I don't know the exact conditions, but it appears that the damage could have been minimized, and quite likely avoided all together if you simply "slowed for the cone zone"

I'm not trying to be an *** or anything, just something to think about. Anyway, good luck and hopefully the damage isn't too bad.

i was going 80 when it was still a 4 lane highway until say .5 miles later then it became 2 lane with the big flashing arrow sign thingy pointing everybody on the 2 left lanes to merge onto the far right lanes. as soon as i saw the flashing arrows i slowed down. i blame the SUV in front of me for not dodging it. from experience with crap on the road, everytime something like this happen the car in front of me always swerved which indicated to me that there something on the road so i should be prepared to swerve. in this scenario the stupid SUV took it head on, i think had it been a regular car then they probably would have swerved. but regardless even if i had attempted to swerve i would have hit the cones on the left side or taken my chance and swerve to the right without even checking hoping there wouldnt be a car to my right. so taking it head on was prolly the safest of choices.

sorry to hear about what happened to your car...

Let me tell you about what happened to my car to try and make you feel better..

The second day of owning my car, my professor flew his door open and scratched my car.. I got the money from his insurance but now his exams and assignments seem to be a lot harder and longer...

(my girlfriend thinks im just tripping out but i think he punished the whole class because i raised the premium on his insurance)

That situation is my scapegoat for my bad grades...
