Default Basic maintenance cost (Comparison with BMW)

when you first bought the IS250, bet some of you did not took into consideration the basic service cost for the car. These are the numbers for five years or 60 month service in my location (San Juan, Puerto Rico).

6 Months or 5,000 Miles - Free (cost $98.73)
12 Months or 10,000 Miles - $204
18 Months or 15,000 Miles - $445 + $190.95 = $635.95
24 Months or 20,000 Miles - $204
30 Months or 25,000 Miles - $204
36 Months or 30,000 Miles - $634.50 + $190.95 = $825.45
42 Months or 35,000 Miles - $204
54 Months or 45,000 Miles - $445 + $190.95 = $635.95
60 Months or 50,000 Miles - $204

Total aprox.= $3,117.35 Basic mantainance

well for one -- the first service is free here in the continental U.S.
#2 the 10K mile service is basically just another oil change (as are most of the others), you can't rotate the tires, etc.

You're correct. I just double checked with them and it's free here also.

Don't have all the numbers, but since my car is approaching 15k miles I called Longo Lexus and they quoted me $226.14 with tax included. A regular oil change such as 5 and 10k is $54.00. This is not that bad compared to other prices i've heard, but I've done the first two oil changes myself and I think I can do this one as well.

The only thing that worries me a little about the 15k service is the recommended inspection list:
- nuts and bolts
- check oil level for differential oil
- Axle shafts and ball joints, etc...

Do any of you think this is a do or die, and if so can I do this myself? Do dealers even check for this when your bring it in ??

its not do or die...

'INSPECT THE FOLLOWING' - means they just put it up on a lift and take a look at it. I don't visual inspections are mandatory for to keep your warranty in effect.

What about the 30 day service?

Is that free along with the 5,000 mile service?

Joes,

For 15K service, you're suppose to change the engine and A/C air filters in addition to the regular oil change. Those two filters can be easily change by yourself. But, both filters will cost about $80 bucks.

I already changed both of the filters little bit after 11K because my car was 15 months old, but the mileage is low.

I think that's pretty much it for the 15K and maybe 30K service. The in-betweens are just regular oil changes.

If you had a BMW, the figure would have been $ZERO

You're mistaken, my only purpose with this thread was to compare the IS service figures with the BMW "free" maintenance policy for four years. I knew someone was going to bring up the BMWs FREE Service policy issue.

Let me show you that not only the BMW service is not free, but also the service cost with BMW is higher than with Lexus.

In my location, the base 328i sells for $42,995 and the base IS250 sells for 40K.

$42,995
$40,000
Dif: $2,995

328i = $2,995.00 (service cost for 4 years)
IS250 = $3,117.35 (service cost for 5 years)

Conclusion: The IS250 maintenance cost is lower than BMWs 328i. The $2,995 does not include the interest your are paying in the financing of the car.

Let's apply an interest rate of 5.54% APR (Penfed.com) to the cost difference of $2,998. The financing is for 5 years/60 months. You will end up paying $440.80 more for the maintenance and with the IS you have a whole year more of service for less money.

328i = $2,995.00 (4 year free service)+ $440.80 (5 years of interest) = $3,435.80
IS250 = $3,117.35 (5 year service cost)
