Does anyone's radar detector go insane when you put your car in D, R, or P?!?
For some odd reason, my radar detector (PASSPORT ESCORT 8500 X50) goes insane when I put the car into either park, reverse or drive. It blasts the LASER warning full-bore. Does anyone know why, or how this could be? And does anyone else have the same issue?? PLEASE HELP IT'S SO ANNOYING.

I have the same rd (8500 x50) using the mount from countryjoy.com off the read view mirror. I do *not* experience any false lasers when shifting gears.
Where is your x50 mounted? If it's pointed toward the nav screen at all, that will set off false alerts.

The real question is, how do you have it plugged in? I just got the 9500I, the first time I plugged it in, the laser warning went crazy also. I then pulled out of my garage and tried it again, and nothing happened. I would try pulling the power cord out of the receptical and trying again. It worked for me, if no luck I would call Escort. Its really annoying though.

haha yea it is crazy annoying. Especially because the laser warning on the 8500 is really loud at first and doesn't mute. I have it mounted on the front windshield at the very bottom in the center. My only thought is, that the car itself is quite hi-tech so to speak, and maybe it sends out some kind of signal when you shift it into gear. I have it plugged into the cigarette lighter socket (it's not hard wired) I have nooo idea why it does this. It doesn't do it everytime, but it does it 80% of the time. or maybe it sends a signal though the electrical system, and the plug picks it up and mis-interprets it. who knows. BUT NO ONE ELSE HAS THIS ISSUE?

Darn, I guess it just might be my detector. Oh well, I just learned about the new Escort 9500i, and needless to say, I will SURELY be purchasing one of those soon. So hopefully, that solves my issue. Thanks though.

I dont have the radar cruise control, but who knows, it has to be something within the cabin that sets it off.
As far as the 9500i goes, I CANNOT wait to get that. With those GPS features, I can't see anything surpassing it. This should put the ESCORT VS. VALENTINE war to a grinding hault with ESCORT coming out on top for sure. The only problem I can see is that someone who isn't that tech-saavy, like my dad for example, would have a problem using it. But for all others, It seems like a cinch.
