Best solution I found is to use the Monster ipod charger/dock and a ground loop isolator. Excellent sound. And the monster 12v is very short, so you can still close the center console lid. To maintain quality sound always use the dock, rather than thru the headphones jack.

Make sure your jack is plugged all the way in. Today I noticed all sound was in mono coming from the front speaker and though it sounded good I knew it was not right. I took a look and the jack had come slightly unplugged. Btw, I use a right angle adapter to make it fit nicely, and that is where it got unplugged.

Great find mushybreak, thanks I won't use in my car, I really don't need that much control of my IPOD. But my wife would like more control over hers, so I ordered it for her car. Thanks again for looking out for us.

I love idiots like this... and by love, I mean hate. Too many salesmen "wing it" if they don't really know the answer to your question.

Thanks Mushybreak! I bought 2...One for my new IS 350 and one for my Wife to use in her car. My son broke her FM transmitter and this will be MUCH better.

After looking further, I may still consider the VAISTECH SL2Vi. Looks like it integrates into the Navigation screen and will allow video form the I-pod...but that is $349 versus the $19.99 + $5.00 S&H.

Default Belkin sells a combination iPod charger and audio input

You plug it into the accessories plug in the center console, then you get a audio cable with two male ends and plug one end into the Belkin adapter and the other into the aux. input. The cable will then run out the front of the center console (and it will close with the Belkin cable extended. You then plug your iPod into the Belkin cable and you have iPod music with great audio and only one cable.

I like it. Works great. The dealer gave me the AUX cable. Sound quality is excellent.

Anyways, I used to just use MP3 CD's, but I eventually bought an SLI and use that. I would have just used MP3 DVD's if the car supported that... but it doesn't, for god knows what reason.
Do you have some kind of iPod kit for the IS? Does Lexus sell one?

Had a similar problem at first, and realized the cable wasn't pushed all the way in on the iPod. If you have a leather or acrylic case on your iPod, make sure the cable is pushed in all the way.

Sounds basic, but easily overlooked.
