I'm pretty suprised at the figures from everyone, even if this car is a year old, with the options he has the car lists for $45k easily, so after 1 yr and this car depreciates 15-17K? That is not so good for the IS. I seriously did not think a Lexus depreciated that quickly. I came from a 98 SC400 which was rare with Lexus making only about 1200 in 98, so it held it's value well. I'm suprised with the technology in the new IS that it's not worth anything a year later? I'm not sure about these figures.

It's not the car itself that depreciates quickly, but the Options and Packages.
A new base IS350 is about $36k. If it's one year old with 15k miles, it should be about $32k Blue Book Value. That's about 15% depreciation; that's for the car alone.
A new fully-loaded IS350 is near $50k. If it's one year old with 15k miles, it should be about $37k Blue Book Value. That's about 25% depreciation; that's for the car and all it's options.

You need to factor in $5-8k incentive from Lexus which comes right off the top and drastically affects depreciation.
But what makes matters worse is Lexus does not use KBB or NADA so your figure of KBB on a fully loaded IS 350 w/ all options after 1 yr later is at $37k this might be a close figure for private party who can appreciate the options on this car but according to a Lexus dealer it would be worth even alot less than that on a trade since they use their own book. So I guess its always better to sell privately and hope to find someone who appreciates the extras and try to re-coupe some back.
It's been so long since I bought a brand new car that I forgot how much it depreciates, I just thought it being a Lexus it wouldn't depreciate that much.
I think everyone here is missing something: there's still a lot of suckers out there who will pay sticker price for a Lexus. List it for 37k OBO, see what you get, what have you got to lose? You can always reject someone's offer and eventually adjust accordingly.

I got the KBB value for my trade in for the IS. They even pulled up the KBB site and showed me that they would match that price.
