Default Low tire??

Hello

My low tire signal is like on and off all the time. It's on whenever the temperatue is low outside (cold weather). What should I do to handle this?

I had the same thing happen. when it gets cold the air compresses or whatever. I just filled up my tires at the warmest part of the day so they wouldn't expand too much if it got too warm.. if that makes sense to you. then the little alert will go away.

I guess i just hate it since the alert is kinda sensitive..or i guess that's one luxury feature. It was on one day and the it's off when the weather turned warm that's why I am trying to find the best way to handle this. Thanks!!

It sounds like at least one of your tires is low on air, and the pressure fluxuation from hot to cold during the day is enough to cause the message. You should fill all of your tires up to the recommended pressure in your garage (about average temp without the offset of sunlight), and re-initialize the TPMS system (button to the left of the steering wheel).

My guess is that your pressures are probably in the very low 30 range when it is warm, and in the high 20s when it's cold. That would cause the behavior you are speaking of. If the pressures were up to spec (35-37 PSI), you wouldn't be getting any warnings.

You might want to consider filling your tires with nitrogen if this is an ongoing issue, and it bothers you...

I'm not going to disagree with you, but that seems like extreme overkill.

Have you checked the air in your tires with a gauge? The cold inflation pressure should match what is on the door jamb: 35/37. My guess is that you are a few pounds low, and the cold temps are enough to put you under the threshold to light the light.

As an officer of the Department of Redundancy Department ... I need to warn you that you are warned about redundantly posting redundant information.

Not really... nitrogen is become much more common, and less variance in tire pressure is one of it's biggest benefits.

$5 per tire and free lifetime refill. I think it's worth it. Just make sure you don't have to drive far to get a refill.

Normal air (at sea level) consists of 78% nitrogen. The whole nitrogen thing is a bunch of BS.

Thanks for the science lesson, Timbo, but I'm gonna stop this one right here...

If you'd like to discuss the validity of nitrogen use, PM me or start your own thread.

Huh. the OP asked about low tire, you're the one who jack the thread with the nitrogen crap.

TimboIS I don't think he is trying to hijack the thread but give another possible reason for air loss besides the obvious puncture. I personally have used N2 in my winter tires on two different vehicles and have never had to top off,...that's why I use it. Regardless of the air's content we have been using N2 on aircraft for as long as I've been working on them, so I think the small benefit out weights the $20.00 expense.

Have you actually tried it,...I mean it's only twenty bucks, give it a shot and if you don't see a benefit come back and tell us.
