low pressure lights when its cold
over the last week or so its been getting colder here in nj...& ive noticed that my tpms sensor is coming up with the low tire pressure....3 days ago it did this but after driving to work the lights went off like it was back to normal. This morning it happened again
Just curious is this normal when its cold outside ? or is it possible im having a tpms issue ?

i'd check the tire pressure with a gauge and refill with air if necessary. the air inside tires heat up and expand after u drive for a while so that might be why the light goes out after a while. if it's low enough in the morning to trigger the light tho, at least one of ur tires are low on air.

Happened to me on my 2008. It sat outside for a week without use and there was a decent temperature drop from 50s to 30s at night. One of the tires got down to about 31psi. Put it back up to 33 and have not seen the light since (knock on wood).

Its the weather when its cold out ur tire pressure light comes up u have too set it under the driver seat.i don't know how but if u look it up u can find how to do it

Low tire pressure
I do not know what year your vehicle is, but with both of mine I just have to bring the pressure up to the rec ommended pressure and the light will go off after you restart the vehicle. It would help to add a couple of extra PSI to cover temperature fluctuations. My vehicles are a 2010 and a 2011.

Welcome to the world of physics.
Tires will lose 1 psi for every 10 degree drop in ambient temperature.
For example, a tire's pressure was set to 32 psi in a setting that was warm, lets say 70 degrees (could be a warm summer day or inside a tire shop bay) and the system was initiallized at 32 psi. Now measure that same tire in a setting that is cold, the pressure would be lower. If it were 30 degrees outside the tire should give you a pressure reading of about 28 psi. I think the TPMS system in Lexus gives us about 4 psi of wiggle room. Once the tire's pressure goes below 28, it should set off the light. Today, it was 12 degrees when I went out to work. If that were my tire, then it would have read around 26 psi if I put a guage on it.
Once you start driving, the rotaiton of the tire causes friction between the road surface and the tire. Friction creates heat, heat raises the temperature of the air in the tire which in turn causes the tire's pressure to increase and then the pressure light goes out after driving for a while.
Best thing to do: when it is cold outside, bring your tires up to your desired psi and then re-initialize the system. You should be good for the rest of the winter. If the light comes on and stays on again after that, check the tires for leaks and physical damges.

Don't forget about you spare also. If that is low it will trigger it also. I know the early tc's had a little issue with them. Toyota recommended to let the air out of the tires wait a bit then refill. Seemed to work on a friends 06 Tc. Her light stayed on even with correct pressure. I know that's not how you reset but it worked.
