MP3s on CD - ID3tag problem - "Extra Genres"
So, I burned a bunch of mp3s to CD and for some reason the stereo reads the Genre type as "Extra Genres" for EVERY mp3. I checked the id3 tags and they are properly marked as "rock" "rap" etc...
Anyone else have this issue? I looked in the manual and the stereo does indeed read ID3 tags for this information...

Rememer I had a thread about it reading id3 tags screwed up before. This was before you had bought your car, but you said it should still work. You will notice more and more problems with id3v2 tags over time. Mine won't even play certain tracks sometimes because of lack of tag or something weird in the tag. I freaking hate it too because I listen to a lot of stuff that is mixed together and what not..
I'll take a look at genre's tonight and tell you what I see.

I am going to do some experimenting tonight with different versions of the ID3 tags... Maybe it prefers id3v1 or something?
Also, I burned mp3s to an ultra-speed CD-RW and it would NOT read/play properly in the car
most likely it only likes id3v1. v2 is good for custom genre's and longer fields but no one seems to agree on reading the version.
CD-RW probably won't play in the car. typically they don't, and if they do they have horrible seek speeds

I am going to burn an mp3 CD tonight with id3v1... Although the manual clearly states that it can read like 10 different versions of ID3... ya right!!!
also, it doesn't appear to read the track # of the id3 tag, but I'll test it with id3v1...

im using a CD-R for my mp3 cd. i made separate folders for each genre of music. for example, 1 folder for rap has all my rap songs, another folder labeled rock has all my rock songs, etc. so when i flip through folders, the name of the folders show, so it shows the genre.
Yea i have to use TDK's from my works storage closet. When I use this brand that I have at home called "great quality" aka "GQ" (you get them from fry's) they don't work. OH the memorex don' t work either. TDK are perfect though.
v2 screw with my head unit sometimes. It's just random. I am happy though to have a changer that plays mp3's.

it depends on how the songs are copied to your ipod/itunes. i use winamp to play my music and rename everything through winamp using id3v2 and i dont see the genres either...
I am going to burn some mp3s with id3V1, the most basic there is and do a test tomorrow... This is annoying that it can't read the genre of id3v2.X
Also, it says that it can read .m3u playlists... Anyone try this? I'll try as well tomorrow...
