I, like many others, would like to put LEDs in the turn signals. I read through the thread in June where a few did it and are living with the rapid flash and others gave up, but I want it work right.

A lot of people here are adept at decoding electronic schematics and finding things in the engine compartment, so I thought if I posted the location of the flasher someone could dig it out and get the specifications.

The abstract flasher location is behind the instrument cluster, the diagram is attached.

A site sells various LED flasher replacements, so once located, my next challenge would be to find a flasher that would work. Here is a site with various LED flashers:

I know I could do trial and error on wiring up load resistors but I would rather not get into cutting wires.

i pulled out the flasher unit once to see if i could replace it with something from superbrightleds but the unit looks nothing like those sold there. i gave up n put everything back together...

anyone changed the reverse lights to LEDs? Any problems?

I installed LED flashers in the back. Got them at superbrightleds.com. Instead of changing the flasher, I just installed resistors. Taped them to the body for heat dissipation, just below the light clusters, hidden behind the trunk trim.

no sorry. it was a green plastic box that said denso on it. i tried googling the numbers i found on it but nothing came up. i pryed open the box and found a small circuit board type thing with electrical "stuff" on it hahah. it's not that hard to get to really. all u gotta do is unscrew the plastic knee guard under the dash and look up. have your hazards flashing and feel around for the box that is making the clicks. the box is connected to a bracket... all you gotta do is disconnected the box from the bracket and then unclip the harness.

I found this on a Tundra forum, posted only 2mo ago.

"The last one... Part Number is 81980-50030 -- Flasher CF18

Stock Denso Part Number is 81980-02030"

I'll try to find it myself but since I'm 6'2" 230, I have a hard time getting my mitts underneath there.

Honestly, though, a Corolla has just as much underneath the dash...

Speaking of simple/not so simple, I was bored the other day, and checked out the dash disassembly procedure...holy moly.

OK, so I contorted myself enough to dislocate the flasher module. It seems this is similar to the one the Tundra guys have but the part number is different so something extra is on ours.

The OEM part on ours is 81980-53030.
The OEM part on the Tundra is 81980-02030.
The LED flasher replacement that works on the Tundra is 81980-50030 (Flasher CF-18 at superbrightleds.com).

Also, the pinouts on the OEM Lexus, OEM Tundra, and the SBLED one are identical (see below link for image of SBLED CF-18 and Technical specs)

Does anyone (any Lexus/Toyota techs on here?) know how to decode the model number codes on these flashers? Something interesting, with the flasher unit removed, the DRLs did not come on but the lights still worked. I am wondering if that might be the difference between this one and the OEM Tundra one.
