Does it REALLY take four months?
I special ordered a 2006 IS250 on March 23rd and took delivery on August 9th. Once you order, your dealership and Lexus do not have a clue where the car is in the assembly process. You will be very lucky to know if the car has made it onto the ship or to port for delivery. The 20th of the month is an important date. If you miss that date, your order will not be submitted until the followng month. In that case, it might take as long as 5 months not 4.

Also. I think that 24th date may just be important at your dealer. As I had stated I ordered my car on Aug 28th. And received it arrived on Nov 24th. My car appeared on their arrivals list in the first week of Nov. My car was built in october
Looking for a 350 w/sport pkg. Dealer had only 2 in stock and both had the luxury pkg. Besides saying it'll take 4 months to order a car, they seemed super reluctant to do it. They also said that they wouldn't be able to give any discounts. What gives? Does Lexus operate on a totally different system? I've ordered BMWs & Benzes before & it's totally hassle free.
I'm thinking of a SGM with Cashmere and prem and X-pack.I don't know how rare this combo is, if it is kinda rare I guess I will have to order one.
I wish lexus would allow us to see there Inventory online instead of having to call the dealership!

The key in a special request is what month your car is slated for production. Usually it's 2 months after you special order... So, if you order in January, your car will be a March build.
Once your car is built, it takes about a month to get. So, with my example above, you would get your car in April. It really does take about 3.5 to 4 months...
There is no lexus "Tracking" system... BMW has a tracking system, it's awesome...
Anyway, once you place your order, you only get one update from the dealer, and that's about 3 months later... That update is after your car is built and scheduled to be shipped to the USA... They will give the following information:
1) VIN
2) Date it will leave Japan on the boat
3) Date it will arrive at the port in the US
4) Date it SHOULD be at the dealer
tqlla3k got lucky and placed his order at the end of August (Almost september) and got an October build! Very rare...
I placed my order in the first week of september and it's slated for a November build. If this happened, I should get a call from the dealer this week saying my car has been built and is scheduled to be shipped and they should provide me with the 4 items I listed above... Stay tuned...

I special ordered an IS with 7 options back in October. I contacted 14 dealerships total. In the end, I got $2,800 off MSRP.
I hear conflicting stories all the time. While some people say that special ordering is just that; the packages and stuff you order go into the database and the car that comes out is YOURS yours, I also hear that they just match your special order to the next car that happens to be in the same configuration. I'm not entirely sure how it works at Lexus; I know I lucked out and SOMEbody happened to order the exact same car I was about to order and backed out (hehe) so I can't judge, but our SLK350 was for sure a special order because we ordered blue leather seats, which was so rare it was discontinued after the first model run. That took three months to complete.
