Drag Racing the IS350
My wife and i have decided to do a little drag racing of our IS350 at the local track in the near future so I went over to dragtimes.com to see how the IS350 stacks up against some of the newer hotter cars that are debated in these forums quite a bit. This is not a very scientific ""test" of what we will be able to do, we all know it depends on the driver, but I think some people may be surprised at how well the IS350 can hold up to many of the "hot" cars that are on the road. Being that we will be running stock I tried to find other stock vehicle drag times as well. The IS350 even manages to keep up with or outpace many modified cars.
I averaged out the times of the first "10" IS350 on the list to get a general idea of what a good run would be. I think some of the higher runs were caused by a less experienced driver or someone with traction control turned on.
So here ya go!

Overall I think that the IS350 stacks up pretty well! When you consider the IS350 has a 210Ci V6 and some of these cars are running 6 liter V8's and turbo chargers I am quite amazed. Please remember this is not a scientific expedition just something I was curious about and thought others may enjoy.
Let all of you decide for yourself.

You say this isn't a scientific expedition, but yet it's very close to being one. you have real world numbers, averages, etc. The only thing you don't have is constant variables. Such as the same race track, same tires etc. But this definitely gives you a good idea of how well the IS350 will perform.

I imagine that 13.4 isn't stock, and may have some weight pulled out?
Cause if that is not the case I am SOOO going to dare my friend in his Regular yet moddified Impreza to play on the interstate with me!!

I been looking at people 1/4 times for a while now and I noticed that the sport package run faster than the lux/reg package. I run my car here in south florida in 90*F weather and my car couldn't hook for nothing. The best E/T I've got is 13.8@101. I also believe the weather plays a very big role in achieving fast E/T

I did quite a bit of drag racing when I was in my late teens in my 73 Torino with a 400 cid smallblock that put out 525hp and ran a nos kit. As I became a bit older I got rid of my faster cars due to financial reasons and my family.
My wife has always drove fast and I told her if she ever got her hands on a car that had some power she would be a maniac! That being said she has already street raced a BMW 325i, Several Mustang GT's, a GS and a few other cars. She really likes to go fast hence my suggestion we go to the track. She is even asking me about modding the car with a new intake and exhaust. I think she has the need for speed!
I think we can also count that most of these cars are running 100 octane and have all the spare tire and other extras out of the car. But if you are going to race just about everyone does that...even if you are a "newbie".

yup...mixing race fuel is not a rare occurence for first timers. I have not yet run my 350. But I have in my past vehicles. The first time I ever went racing I filled up with race fuel.

LOL never heard it called that before, but man that's funny. I think JOEZ originally intended it to be called the "JOEZ DAFI for Direct Air Flow Intake.
Back on topic:
My best runs that were all over 104mph and (2) over 105mph were done with spare tire removed only, 28psi rear tires and 45psi front tires. No race gas ever used, just the normal 93 octane with between 1/4 and 1/2 tank. I do believe that variables such as weather, 60' times and elevation play a very big role in drag times. I also believe some cars are just slightly quicker out of the box than others. For comparisons sake, my first time at the drag strip in this car was with 3/4 tank of gas and the spare left in place. This was at (Mason Dixon Dragway) at 550ft elevation and the temps were 70 degrees. My best run that day was a 13.6@101mph. Tried another track (Capitol Raceway) at a 300ft elevation with temps at 73 degrees a few months later. My best run was 13.47@103.5mph. Going even lower in elevation to 80ft (MIR) and temperature at 58 my best run was a 13.38@105mph.

I dont' see where everybody is getting these 13 second numbers with their IS cars, I think they are a little optomistic at best. My friend has my old S4 that ran a 14.2 with a 1.9 60 foot time consistently and he stomps my IS every time we race. I mean it is not even close he always gets by at least a car and half. I would guess the IS is more of a 14.3 or 14.4 car STOCK that is. It is an 05' S4 with the V8.

And your comments do what to support the idea of this thread? There are slips posted at the websites, there are people on this site who are running in the 13's. I say being extreme is thinking we'll run 11's heavily modified (I didn't say impossible!).
You have taken a completely positive thread and thrown a wrench in it. Just because your experiences speak differently of what is posted doesn't mean you can speak for this entire IS thread. This isn't an attack on you.
Perhaps you are romping on IS300's or IS250's or maybe some IS350's that didn't anticipate you/your friend to do a ricer fly by? :P

those times are way off for many of the other cars..
a GT500 running mid 13's lol my 99 cobra ran 13.4 stock... yet the GT500 is slower with 200 more horsepower.. i have sceen a few up at epping running low to mid 12's bone stock... and how come the bone stock 350z ran the same as the infiniti g35 coupe with a supercharger? also the mustang GT should be running what the GT500 ran... mid 13's I would say that the mustang GT is about equal speed wise to the IS350
