whether or not it's available, someone will figure it out and people will do it anyway. i have mine overridden only with a passenger and they do everything. it is a lot easier that way and it saves me the time. if i had to do it by voice command, i could've gone to the next state and back before it figured out what i was saying.

So we're trying to argue the point (to Magellan) about the Nav override with rational scenarios, not this type of nonsense.

Being "forced" to pull over on a dangerous freeway in order to "nav" your way to a "changed" location because you couldn't navigate on the fly caused you to get rearend in the breakdown lane of the freeway....c'mon.

Weak.

When you put in the tool, it just unlatches the part and it does not pop out. It stays stationary. I gotta find a way to remove it without ruining the finish.
There is a small lip on the top edge of the clock panel. You
can pry on this lip with a screwdriver against the buttons above
the panel. It will not hurt the buttons.

Sounds good. Iw ill use the tape method and the pry method as you mentioned. Doesnt hurt to give it an extra tug with the tape.

Also, you mentioned that i need to disconnect the power before inserting the disc. Would this apply to the 06 when i remove and backup the disc? i understand your rationale when replacing the 07 nav disc with the 06, but does this apply with the 06?

OK, here's what is seems happens.

If you put an 07 disc in an 06 car, the override STILL works. BUT, if power is disconnected to the nav, and the nav has to reboot, it will load the 07 firmware and the nav override will be lost.

However, the good news is that you can indeed "downgrade" the firmware back to the 06 disc and get the override back.

Also, it has been confirmed that making a disc with the 07 data and 06 firmware (loading kiwi) works as well.

This is just a band-aid fix though, and we really need to figure out the override sequence for the 07 disc.

Check the "DYI Navigation hack" thread. People who are doing the wire cutting hack on the 2007 are experiencing issues that would lead one to think that the signal wires are different on the 2007 model. Are you 100% sure that all the wires are the same? What if the harness is the same, but the signal going through the wire is different? (e.g. - Pink wire is still pink, and same pin-out, but it's no longer VSS. <-- Just an example, I'm pretty sure this is not the case)

Thanks a bunch for the info! I wish this site had +rep! How difficult would it be to create a disc with '07 data and '06 firmware?

Very simple from what I hear... Just replace the loading.kiwi file on the 07 disc with the one from the 06 disc and burn to a DVD+R DL...

Check the ES and other forums... Basically, you just copy the contents of the disc to your hard drive, replace the loading.kiwi file, and burn.

Do you have both 2006 and 2007 discs?

Technique, Great work. When I said the wiring was the same what I meant was the wiring at connector J50 and P1. In other words, the wiring diagram in the EWD manual shows the J50 and P1 connector and wiring being identicle for 06 and 07. The dash wiring harness itself is different because 07 has a nanny kill and a few more lighted buttons. hope this helps.

Gotcha... Ya, I checked out the wiring diagrams myself... J50 and P1 are the only relevant connectors anyway... But ya, they looked identical to 2006 and 2007...

Just gotta wait till more people with the 07 do the hack... Not enough data points yet...

Well I'm afraid now my override while moving options may be lost. I'd been having problems with my navigation location and the dealer said they installed some updated data? Not the new '07 disc map, just new data. Think this is the firmware update that comes with teh '07 stuff?

Have you tried the override commands?
