Can anyone else with the AWD confirm that the oil filter is the same part # as those that are non-awd? I heard from 2 people that it is different but I can't find any posts that specifically address and/or show that. I enclosed a pic from the post that micahis250 that shows the filter part # from toyota. I dont know why it would be different but obviously need to be sure. Also, my owner's manual says 5w-30 but some have been talking about a change to 5w-20. Has there been anything that is official from Lexus as far as a change. Thanks.
I finally was able to get thru to Lexus on the filter. They told me I needed a yzza2 cannister S type filter. Called the local toyota dealer and was told they used to carry the 04152-31090 for the avalons and so forth. Anyone know anything about what will and wont work. Lexus didn't know or wouldnt give me any info on it.
The newer filters have a substitute number (04152-YZZA_) where _ is 1,2,3,4.
All are available at Toyota dealers at reasonable prices.
They may have changed the O-rings in the filter kit.
The 5W-30 may be easier to come by than the 5W-20, currently anyway. Locally, I have yet to see it on the auto supply store shelves. If supply is a problem, stay with the 5W-30.
I used the contact form on the Lexus website; it took about two weeks but I got this response:
Dear Mr. -:
Thank you for contacting Lexus Customer Satisfaction. We are dedicated to providing superior service and we apologize for the delayed response. In circumstances that require our attention, we will assist in the resolution process.
Lexus recommends using SAE 5W-20 grade of oil for your 2006 IS 350. The reasons for the change in oil are better fuel economy, engine protection, and cold starting performance. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused.

Our local Wal-Mart has Mobil 1 in 5W20. Almost bought it for my oil change a couple weekends back, but hadn't yet received confirmation from Lexus (email quoted above), and when I called my dealer to confirm the change, they told me to use 5W30. You'd think the dealers would read the TSBs!
I'm glad to see that someone actually has it in writing as far as the change over to 5w-20. I ended up doing the change earlier today w/ the 30 since I heard the same thing from the dealer. I'll just switch over to 20 next time. How long between changes are you all going w/ using the synthetics?
