Default Scratched Wheel :(

I have a 2007 IS250 with the 18 inch wheels and tires. Took the car to a local carwash (I know...wash it myself) but I was in a hurry and at least it was brushless. Anyways, as I pulled forward into the channel that pulls you car through I must have scratched the lip of the front wheel *more like a gash! . Anyone know if this is repairable or should I just suck it up?

You can try to get it polished if its superficial, but if it's a gash (visible torn edges into the metal), you may need to replace it.

I don't why you'd go to a car wash (brushless doesn't mean touchless), but that's a whole other discussion.

If you're planning to buy new rims later, dont worry about.

One of those carwashes scraped along the whole side of our SC430. Thing's been repainted about 3 times now.

I'm alwaus careful about curb rash though because it is one of the few easily preventable damages.

About car washing, I take my car to a wand wash though now. I can't be bothered to try to find a place to hand wash my car at college.

I used a bright silver high temperature engine spray paint and painted over the curb rash (masked the area around it). Looks much better with minimal notice. Give it a try.

If the damage is not to bad you might be able to find a reputable company in your area to repair and refinish the damaged wheel. If you're lucky, there might be a company in your area that specializes in such repairs. Check the phonebook?

My brother in-law just happens to own such a company and I've had to use him a few times. They grind and smooth the curbed area, color match and paint the area, then spray on a clear. It's not perfect (i.e. OEM), but looks really good and only noticeable if you look hard.

This will be cheaper than buying a new wheel as OEM products tend to be expensive.

I did the same thing the first time I went into a brush-less. So much for brush-less... I just left it as is because you will get more scratches.

But on another note, I hit my front lip on a concrete block in the parking lots. Talk about stupidity! It's just another excuse for me to get the Tom's lip kit.

Good luck,
-Mike
