Wheel Damage question?
Hey guys, I need your opinion on something. I took my rims to get the rear tires swapped. When I got them back, there was damage on both rear wheels on the inner barrel, just inside the inner lip. What could've caused this? The shop said that there's no way that their tire machines could've caused it, since they mount/secure the wheel in other areas. They said if anything it would scratch on the outside edge of the inner lip, not near the barrel. They also said maybe something is rubbing the inside of the wheel from my car? I have an '07 IS250 RWD lowered with H&R springs. The wheels are AME CX's, 19x10 with a +45 offset mounted on 275/30's. Anybody seen this type of damage before and is it possible that there's something on my car that could've damaged the wheel like that. I don't want to accuse them of something that they didn't do, but at the same time, if they did damage it, I'd like them to fix it.
Not to sure if it makes a difference, but I did run the car with a 10mm spacer before, but that would've only pushed the wheel out farther anyways. LMK

Yeah, I don't know what to think. The first thing I thought of was when they dismounted the tires. But they're saying that it's impossible because of the machine that they have. And I can't think for the life of me what could possibly rubbed from my car on the wheels. Especially since the edge of the inner lip sticks out farther that the area that was damaged??? Should I raise the BS flag on them?
Yeah all the marks are fresh. I don't remember seeing them when I took the wheels off to take them to get the new tires mounted up. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't miss all those scratches. But the real question is what would cause those scratches?
I spoke to the owner and the tech who installed them, and they both said that same thing at the same time. The weird thing is that I've had like 5 sets of wheels mounted and balanced from them before with no issues. And, I'd like to think that they're pretty straight up guys there. What else could it be?

And the thing is that I don't want them to have to pay for anything if they didn't do it. But, on the flip side, I don't want to pay for some wheel repairs if somebody else caused it too.
i think this is one of those things where you're not going to find out what/who caused the damage. you just have to accept the fact that your wheels are messed up unfortunately. this exact thing happened to me. i just didn't feel like dealing with any BS so I just took care of it myself. Hopefully, you can find the culprit behind this, whether it be yourself (perhaps you forgot because of amnesia...jk) or someone else. If you've done this 5 times with them and nothing bad has occurred from those five previous, I think it's a safe bet that the tire place did not cause it. Or if you strongly believe it was them, do a lie detector test on them... hahaha. good luck solving the problem.
was thinking along the line of a pothole...
